According to Gigwise.com, Kings Of Leon are in the running to perform the theme song for the next instalment in the James Bond movie franchise which is scheduled to be released sometime next year.
KOL could be in a fix however, given that several other acts are reportedly in the running to record the track. William Hill bookmakers have ranked the band with a 10/1 chance, making them outsiders when compared to the 8/1 statistic for Beyonce and the 5/1 for Leona Lewis. Adele is the current favourite with a 3/1 ranking.
While the
Followill clan might not be statistical favourites, the band are still major contenders according to William Hill spokesman
Joe Crilly: "
Adele is currently the favourite to do the Bond theme, but noises coming out of the band’s camp suggest that the King’s of Leon are breathing down her neck."
What’s more, according to The Sun newspaper, James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is a keen advocate for KOL’s participation in the soundtrack. In fact, the actor has reportedly asked the band to perform the track on three separate occasions.
Caleb Followill has also suggested that he would be interested in getting involved: "I've always wanted to work with strings so that would be a good excuse to do it."
Kings of Leon are currently working on a new documentary film called Talihina Sky with director Stephen Miller, which chronicles the band’s childhood as Pentecostal Christians and their subsequent rise to fame. "Nathan Followill had the following to say on the movie: We’re pretty open with our fans... they know what to expect, but I think there are some things in the film that they’re not ready for."
