Kings Of Leon Slam 'Boring' Reading Crowd

artist: kings of leon date: 08/31/2009 category: general music news
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Kings Of Leon were so angered by the dull crowd at the Reading Festival, that frontman Caleb Followill gave foul-mouth abuse to the audience.

The band were headlining the event on Friday night (28th August), during which their performance was affected by sound problems say reports - as well as cold weather.

Frustrated by the boring reception, Caleb could be heard saying to audience members: "We know you're sick of Kings of Leon. We're f***ing sick of Kings of Leon too. But we get up here every night and I thank God for everything I've had."

"So for all those who don't give a f**k about us, I understand. But we've worked hard to be here. We're the goddamn Kings of Leon, so f*** you."

Reports say Caleb and brother Jared Followill then smashed up their guitars before quitting the stage.

Still angered by the set, Followill later wrote on his Twitter page: "Reading? What the f***? Zero love for the kings. I know it was cold but holy s***, y'all were frozen. I can only hope Leeds is in better form."

Thanks for the report to Angryape.com.

I was there, it was really windy. It means they have to turn the volume down as the sound carries into town. I was pretty close to the front and it was ok, not the greatest performance of the weekend but my mates further back said it was dead quiet, which would explain why there was no energy.

And also their stage presence really isn't that great.

"We're the goddamn Kings of Leon, so f*** you." Well... their music is not all that... matter of fact they kind of suck, Their stage presence is one of the worst Iґve ever seen and insulting the crowd for not liking their BORING music is just stupid... I hope that the crowd in next KOL's concert do the same! I have a lack of interest and respect for bands that disrespect fans in such a way.

This is a really rock n roll thing to do. Hopefully, they'll infuse this into their music and write songs I want them to write. Like Aha Shake Heartbreak stuff.

Don't really mind some of their tunes, but you can't insult a crowd, EVER. Let it be known that this day marks the beginning of the end for this band.

well if they were not so crap the crowd might have gotten into it a bit more, i have seen them at reading before and they were just over rated tripe. no edge to this band what so ever. jpizzle is dead right not good enougth to be a headline act at reading. they should have given there slot to Faith no more, !

I only know their music because it always comes on in stores... which is really the only place it belongs. If you listen to this band for pleasure, you're a boring ****.

he smashed his guitar at T in the Park cause of sound problems and they had to be convinced to go to oxegen, where they put on a shit show. Sounds like KOL are falling apart.

I kinda saw this coming... I saw them on the tele on some crappy award show and they really looked like they did'nt wanted to be there. They seem to have lost the spark they had on the first to albums and part of the third

I'm sorry but who does Caleb think he is? I was at Leeds yesterday and everything was fine, the crowd couldn't have been better despite the rain.

Besides, he isn't exactly James Hetfield, is he?

Considering their stage presence sucks, he shouldn't be so pissy that no one was moving.

If I'm freezing my ass off, very few bands will be able to get me to move. Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Blink could do it.

But they don't even move. Caleb, if for whatever reason you go to Ultimate-Guitar.com and read this comment, feel free to email me at bencampbell10@hotmail.com.

Seriously. I'd like to have a conversation with this dick. You don't insult a crowd. You know what I would've done?

"Gah. Sorry it's so cold out here, guys. I'm freezing my ass off, how about you guys?" *wait for roar of agreement* "Hah. Yeah. You know, maybe if we start going fucking shit crazy, we can make this place a few degrees warmer. Whaddya say?" *play the most energetic song they know*

You sir, know how to perform, which apparantly, is more than I can say for the Kings of Leon.

A good band can get a crowd going whatever the fecking weather.

That's disappointing to hear about a band I like. I probably wouldn't go see them now cause they'd mostly be playing stuff of their new cd, which isn't my favorite, but I still give a listen to their older stuff here and there.

Sounds like they're just a bit burnt out at the moment. They've been touring for the past two years solid, I'm not surprised they're sick of themselves. It sounds like they need to take a year off and let everybody forget about them for a while.

I want the garage band Kings of Leon back, I'm not a big fan of the Radio band.

gromit13 wrote on 09/01/2009 - 05:33 am / quote |
The sound wasn't as bad as everyone was saying. It's just the crowd was full of younger people who didn't give a shit unless they were singing sex on fire. I felt bad for KOL coz it wasn;t their fault that the festival crowd has evolved since their last amazing visit to Reading. It's a shame how a number one single has ruined what could have been an amazing set but it wasn;t just them. A lot of bands suffered from the same thing. If it wasn't on the new album they didn;t want to know. Except for Arctic Monkeys coz no one had heard their new album lol

gromit13 wrote on 09/01/2009 - 05:34 am / quote |

Hav 2 admit I'm really sick and tired of the term 'sell-out'. It gets thrown around these days like the word 'the'. It used 2 be considered a talent to be able to write a catchy song, seems now u just get abused for it. In comparison 2 great bands of the past, KOL don't exactly rock your socks off but unfortunately they're about the best you can hope for on the radio these days

The best you can hear these days? Dude, get your ears cleaned up. KOL is WAAAY too full of themselves, how can you insult a crowd that went there to see YOU? Without us or at least them who listen to your "OOHH YOUR SEX IS OON FIREEEE" would be just an inside joke between girls who have STD's.

These guy seriously need to get over themselves. Getting pissy just because they don't play as good as they like to think, it's just like when 50 Cent and G-Unit played the reading festival one year, except they got bottled off stage, that was pretty damn sweet!

chordios wrote on 09/01/2009 - 06:01 pm / quote |
I was there and the reason the front wasn't doing anything is cos the crush was so damned bad! We couldn't sing along let alone move where we were! + i'm sick of all the bandwagoners who only know 2 of their songs! The Kings of Leon of the past are so much better and actually aren't dull! They even know this - at their own gigs they play mainly their older and energetic songs which for some reason they skipped out here

stupid. the crowd doesn't have some kind of obligation to act like clowns. when i go to a show i don't want to dance and act like a jack***, i just want to see the band play. i'm the one who's paying to just stand there. maybe the millions of dollars they're making off all of the 16-20ish year old trendy girls listening to them isn't enough...

I was there, front center, leaning on the barrier at the back of the pit area. The sound was just great, the crowd knew every word to every song and gave the band a great reception after every song. They (KOL) just seemed to have a downer on everything. I'm a huge KOL fan, paid a lot to bet here, really enjoyed the show, almost felt offended by their attitude and comments. I guess thats just Rock'n'Roll

amn_esiac wrote on 01/22/2010 - 02:04 pm / quote |
Same, I really enjoyed it and it wasn't cold at all really, must've been a bit colder up on the stage than it is in Tenessee I guess.

I don't blame them for getting annoyed when - and you can't deny this once you watch the show on YouTube - the crowd sings FAR louder, and in a lot of cases probably only turned up for two songs, to Sex on Fire and Use Somebody, but they shouldn't have spoken to the crowd like that.

Best the radio has to offer??? I'd rather listen to Daughtry or Staind than this crap.
The first time I heard the vocals on "Use Somebody", my eardrums took a dump. I don't usually cringe this bad for another band that isn't named "Creed", but at least I can go through a whole song because Mark Tremonti has more talent than the whole KoL band put together.
