Doug Fieger, lead singer of the rock band The Knack, has died. He had been battling cancer, brother, Geoffrey Fieger announced yesterday (Sunday, February 14th).
The Knack broke out of the Los Angeles club scene in 1979 with the debut Get The Knack, which spawned the No. 1 hit single, "My Sharona." The song remained at No. 1 for weeks. A followup single, "Good Girls Don't" reached No. 11 in the US. Fieger was 57.
The Knack recorded seven studio albums, three compilation projects, a pair of live albums and a concert DVD. The documentary DVD,
Getting The Knack, was released in 2004.
Fieger was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005, resulting in the removal of half of one lung. In 2006, the Detroit native underwent brain surgery to remove two tumors.
Knack drummer, Bruce Gary, died of cancer in 2006.
