Korn: Frontman Hospitalized, Band Plays With Various Vocalists

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was hospitalized in the U.K. on June 10 for an unspecified illness, forcing him to miss the band's appearance at Download Festival.

Not letting fans down, Korn performed a shortened 30-minute set on the main stage of Day 2 of the U.K.'s Download Festival, drafting in Jesse Hasek from 10 Years, M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold, Dez Fafara from DevilDriver, Benji Webbe from Skindred, Corey Taylor from Slipknot/Stone Sour & Matt Heafy from Trivium, making it the most unique Korn show in the band's history. Check out pictures: photo1, photo2, photo3, photo4. Also, a couple of short video clips and photos have been posted online at KornTV.co.uk.

The group's setlist was as follows:

01. It's On! (Feat. Jesse Hasek)
02. Falling Away From Me (Feat. M. Shadows)
03. Somebody Someone (Feat. Dez Fafara)
04. Coming Undone (Feat. Dez Fafara)
05. A.D.I.D.A.S. (Feat. Benji Webbe)
06. Clown (Feat. Corey Taylor)
07. Freak on a Leash (Feat. Corey Taylor)
08. Blind (Feat. Matt Heafy)

Korn will not appear at Download Festival 2006 in Dublin, Ireland, as well as at previously announced June 13 headlining show at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, Holland.

Such a shame, I was at Download as was really looking forward to seeing Korn - I was gutted when I found out that Jonathon was ill. The gig was a mixed bag for me, the band sounded great, with a great backing band too - flawless. However the singers weren't so good. Jesse Hasek was aweful, he didn't know any of the words (even though there was an autocue at the front of the stage) and never came in at the right time - not entirely his fault I suppose, probably didn't have much or any time to prepare! M Shadows was just as bad too. Dez was alright, a bit quiet but nonetheless more confident that the others - still disappointing for someone of his caliber though. My faith was resored however when Benji from Skindred came on however, and did an awesome rendition of A.D.I.D.A.S. he was confident, in time and sounded great too. Corey was by a long way the best vocalist to come on though, he was simply great. Very few mistakes, confident and he just sounded brilliant - top notch stuff Korn with Corey Matt Heafy was mediocre, not very interesting to watch or listen to (not that you could hear him over the crowd).

Overall I was disappointed, the gig wasn't brilliant but its not exactly Korn's fault. The band were tight as a ducks bottom and the only faults were the unprepared singers!

Hope Jon gets better soon

JD Letter from Korn.com
Hey everyone,

I am writing this to thank everyone who called, or emailed me the past few days, believe me, they have been some of the scariest days of my life.

This is the short version of what happened. I started getting these weird bruises all over my body about 2 weeks ago. I was getting very weak after the shows so I saw a doctor in London Friday. He took some blood tests and when the results came in they rushed me to the hospital. It turned out that I have ITP, it's too hard to spell, but basically it's a blood infection, where because of an allergic reaction I had to some medication, my blood platelets, the stuff my bone marrow produces to help my blood clot, were really low. I mean way low. Most humans have between 140 and 400 in their cells. I had 5.. no joke... FIVE. If I continued to headbang on stage I could have had a brain hemorrahage and dropped dead on the spot.

My doctors ordered me to remain at the hospital until they could get my blood in some kind of healthy shape.

I want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at The London Clinic, all the singers who performed with the band at the London festival: Cory from Slipknot/Stone Sour, Dez from Devildriver, Jesse from Ten Years, Benji and Skindred, Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold, and Matt from Trivium. I want to thank my band and crew for all their love and support, my loving family and friends and most of all the fans, the best fans in the world.

The doctors are telling me that each day I've been here in the hospital my platelet count has been going up and I should be healthy to play in a few weeks. The doctors have cleared me to walk around a bit but I am unable to perform a show or travel right now. They will know more in a day or two but I want everyone to know that we will do our very best to come back soon to play any dates we are unable to play on this tour.

Thank you,

Love Jonathan.

TSOAF = ?
05. A.D.I.D.A.S. (Feat. Benji Webbe)
This was pretty good vocals.

06. Clown (Feat. Corey Taylor)
07. Freak on a Leash (Feat. Corey Taylor)
The best part of the gig, corey plays the crowd so well as everyone likes him. Did vocals pretty well.

08. Blind (Feat. Matt Heafy)
Would of been better if corey did it, Timing i think was off (was pretty stoned so dont really remember) but his vocals didn't really fit.

Was a shame Davis couldn't make it, hope he gets a quick recovery!

Blackskall wrote on 06/12/2006 - 09:11 pm / quote |
hes recovering, on there site www.korn.com hes writes a letter saying that hes in the hospital recovering. It was something about his blood plate count was really low from a reaction to his medication. The letter can tell you better than I can

I was there, and nobody even noticed the band come on the stage - a cameraman kept finding girls sat on people's shoulders, and the crowd would yell "Get your tits out!!". The people working at download were fun. The security looked to be enjoying the music, while still being sensible, the cameramen were always following the girls... it was great!

It was quite funny. Poor Jonathan, though. I don't much like Korn, but a festival in front of more or less 50,000 people is a bad gig to miss...

Oh, just read on their website - he had a blood infection, which stopped his marrow producing enough platelets to clot his blood. Apparently the normal rate per cell, is between 140 and 400, whereas, in the man's own words,
I had five... No joke... FIVE. If I continued to headbang on stage I could have had a brain hemorrhage and dropped dead on the spot.

He says his count is going up, and he should be well enough to play in a few weeks time. He also says the band will try to make up for missed dates asap.

Jonathan Davis Released From The Hospital

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis will soon return to the United States after having been hospitalized over the weekend in London with a blood illness.

Davis' father, Rick Davis, said Monday afternoon that his son has been released from a London hospital and is back at a hotel.

"If everything goes as planned, he will fly back to the United States in the next 24 to 48 hours to return home," the elder Davis said. "He will remain under close medical attention. He'll probably go directly to a medical facility."

Davis, executive director of the Kern County Board of Trade, said his son became ill with ITP -- idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura -- an autoimmune disorder. Davis' blood platelet count fell dangerously low because of an allergic reaction to a medication, according to a note on the Korn Web site.

"If I had continued to headbang onstage I could have had a brain hemorrhage and dropped dead on the spot," Davis' note says.

"His spirits have been good through the whole thing, but he appreciates the severity of the disorder and the importance of getting medical attention," the senior Davis said.

Rick Davis said Korn bassist Reggie "Fieldy" Arvizu and guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer will accompany his son on the return trip.

"They said they 'would not leave their brother behind,' " Mr. Davis said.

Billboard.com reported that Davis, who, like the rest of the band, hails from Bakersfield, was hospitalized with an unspecified illness. But Davis' Web note said he began noticing "weird little bruises" on his body about two weeks ago and was growing weak. After seeing a London doctor on Friday, he was rushed into care and diagnosed, the note said.

Davis' note said the last several days have been "some of the scariest" of his life.

In Davis' absence at Britain's Download Festival, Korn, touring in support of its latest album, "See You on the Other Side," received onstage help from vocalists of Slipknot, Devildriver, 10 Years, Skindred and Avenged Sevenfold, Billboard.com reported.

Billboard.com reported that Davis' illness forced the band to cancel a series of European dates until at least early July.

Korn is due to kick off its Family Values Tour on July 27 in Virgina Beach, Va., Billboard.com reported. Stone Sour and Deftones are among bands scheduled for the tour.

+ glad Jonathans feeling better+ and Corey did a pretty good job on FOAL
