Korn Lose Guitarist

Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has parted ways with the hard rock act, citing a recent religious awakening, reports Reuters.

Welch broke the news Sunday on Bakersfield, Calif., station KRAB-FM. "I had it in my heart to come here and explain to you," Welch said. "I'm good friends with Korn. I love those guys, and they love me, and they're very happy for me."

Addressing the aggressive tone of the music he made with Korn, Welch said, "Anger is a good thing, and if kids want to listen to Korn, good, but there's happiness after the anger. I'm going to show it through my actions how much I love my fans."

Welch added that he would be appearing at a local church on Feb. 27, during which time he would "speak (about) how I got to this place in my life, and I'll answer all your questions." A 50-second audio clip of "Head" discussing his departure from the band with KRAB-FM has been made available for download at the Korn fan site KornWeb.cjb.net.

On their official web site, Korn's remaining members said they respect Welch's wishes and hope "he finds the happiness he is searching for." The group is in the studio working on a new album, due in September, which will be its first since fulfilling its contract with Epic last year.

For now, no replacement for Welch has been named, nor has a new label home for the band.

I myself think that this is a beautiful thing for so many reasons. He's being honest with not only himself, but his fans, and his fans deserve that. I don't mind that he found Jesus and everything, it's a big deal, trust me I've found Jesus too, but I still believe he could have been a born-again Christian but in a heavy band at the same time...I don't think Jesus himself would see anything wrong with that, just as long as the messages in the music weren't anti-Christ or anything. I love Korn's music, and I still respect Head. Im not sure religion was the onyl reason why he left, there have to have been an argument or somthing going on. I read on another sight that Head tried to pressure religion on the rest of the band. Head has been out since January, its just know getting publicity. Korn is a 4 person band now, on stage Heads guitar part are on a sampler, It will be akward seeing them with only 4 people now. Good luck to Korn, and Head.

I am not really a korn fan, but i really respect Head and the rest of the group now. Head obviously didnt feel right with what he was doing, and i admire him for actually doing something about that. I also really admire the way the rest of Korn supported him with his decision. That is awesome, to be that close, that you would support one of the backing forces of you band to leave and follow his heart.

when i heard the news that HEAD was leaving KORN i went through the stages of denial:
first confusion,"HUH??? WHAAA??? JESUS???

then last acceptance, "meh, well at least he's happy"

though i am really heartbroken that HEAD is leaving, i'm still happy for him. his savage riffs were always there for me when i needed to relieve some aggression. he's is one of the many that inpired me to play guitar. i'm just thankful that he's not leaving the band because he had huge arguement with the remaining members of KORN. if you think about it, it could be worse. at least we didn't hear that he passed away. so i hope that he's happy and hope that he always will be. i know that some are angry, some are pissed off. but as fans we need to support him.

Personally, I think that was a good choice. Your in a band that has no talent in music what-so-ever for so long but its never to late to leave. (well, except for the sh*tty ass lead singer.) The point is, If Head has any talent to his guitar playing what-so-f*cking-ever, then ya might as well put it to a lot more of a better use. To hell with Korn. Now Head has finally seen the light and has saved his life and will probably get a better reputation. Hopefully he'll play some real metal if he ever makes a band up on his own. Welch is a respectable man for doing what he did and for the reasons he did it, but the music he makes on guitar doesn't portray any type of "evil" its just a 7-string guitar downtuned through a distortioned Amp thats makes a heavier sound than a regular guitar. To some people this sound is almost heavenly(not stlye) and to others it sounds like something out of hell but it doesn't mean he has to quit the band God never said to play heavy music but he never said not to either. Welch probabally didn't see past this (if it is true I'm only a 15 year old taking philosophy)maybe if he ever does see past it he'll have a reunion concert I never got to go to a KoRn concert it would be nice. The world just isn't accepting enough.Welch will always be a big part of KoRn Past and hopefully present

I completely respect Head for what he did. It takes a lot of guts to leave a band that is as sucessful as korn is. It makes you realize that he must be taking his faith pretty seriously. Also, for those of you who think that you can't be hardcore and christian at the same time are sadly mistaken. Some of the best hardcore bands in the world are in fact christian. What good is rock if it has no lasting meaning behind it? I wish Head the best of luck with what he is doing. Hopefully he'll start a hard core christian metal band of something! That would be awesome! I also think its so ironic that the band that was just last year totally dissing christians is the band that has a closet christian in it. Wierd, huh? first off, most of you are complaining about religion. but this is not about religion at all. it's about Jesus. and christianity isn't a religion anyway, at least in what it's supposed to be. it's supposed to be a relationship between a person and Jesus. religion is a lie and it makes people bitter. the church paints this distorted picture sometimes of Jesus as this guy who is out to ruin everyone's fun and wants to be pissed off at everyone all the time. but that couldn't be further from the truth. it's the church's way of keeping power and promoting their own viewpoints before those of God. And since you are all so gothic and metal and whatnot, recall the crow... "man has an idea. the idea becomes an insitution. what was the idea?" that's religion for you. changes all the time because no one really knows what it is. but Jesus has remained unchanged for over 2000 years. Korn in itself is a religion. All of you are so mad because this guy left your band and now your world is flipped upside down. i like what one guy said.. "he is a man before he is a musician." good stuff. i mean seriously, think about it. Head leaves the band because the money isn't giving him fulfillment. Korn has made millions of dollars and can still manage to put something like 8 albums out complaining about how bad life sucks. That in itself should be testament that money and record contracts don't bring happiness. Head woke up and realized the only way to actually have happiness is to have a relationship with Jesus. That doesn't mean his life is gonna be all peachy. it's probably gonna be kinda crazy for a while. but that's to be expected anytime one makes a drastic change like that. but Jesus himself said, "in this world you will have troubles, but take heart! I have overcome the world." (that's John 16:33 in case anyone wants to check up on me.) so all i'm saying is before everyone starts whining about the man's decision, at least learn what decision he has made first and don't just go off about something you know nothing about. and as far as it not being possible for there to be any good christian rock bands... As I Lay Dying, Beloved, Underoath, Norma Jean... just to name a few. If anyone thinks Korn rocks harder than As I Lay Dying... you're just plain crazy. i would like to apologize on behalf of whoever claimed they followed Jesus and told you that playing loud heavy music was somehow evil. whoever let you in on that was completely ignorant and probably, well... old. Jesus is less concerned with the type of music people are playing and more concerned with the condition of the players heart. And as far as Korn being so heavy with their detuned guitars and whatnot, if you want to bass heaviness on the tuning of the guitar.. be my guest. but personally, i think heaviness is based on how passionate the artist is about the music. if korn is to remain "heavy", from a totally non-christian and unbiased standpoint, it's best for head to be out of the band. how convincing is korn going to be when all of the members aren't backing the music 100%? not convicing at all. they'll just be more pop/mallcore than they already are. and we seriously don't need any more pop/mallcore bands.
