Korn Loses Guitarist

Korn's latest guitarist, Clint Lowery of Sevendust, left the band due to a family emergency. Via his Myspace page, Lowery stated the following:

"Everything's fine- just had to get home," Lowery reported, "Hated to leave. Love all the KORN guys and had a blast with them."

To take his place, guitarist Shane Gibson will take the stage. Gibson was added by Korn's frontman Jonathan Davis, who will also be using him on the singer's upcoming solo tour.

This latest news is added onto the growing list of Korn guitarists, after Brian "Head" Welch left the group in February 2005 after finding Christianity. Lowery was the second guitarist to fill the position after Otep's Rob Patterson left earlier this year.

Shane Gibson? Never heard of him, Youtube time I guess. Personally I was hoping it was Munky so that Fieldy could have a reason to leave and KoRn could degenerate into the next Guns 'n Roses. I love all of their Head-era material, each album has some sentimental value to me in its own way (yes, even Untouchables!) but everything from SYOTOS onwards has pretty much been been painful to witness. I'm all for evolution and whatnot (no pun intended) but seriously! The essence of what made old KoRn so good is long gone. Meh. Oh, IMO and whatnot.

I'm not a huge fan of them, but to me it seems like the ones really writing the vast majority of the songs are the singer and bassist anyway. Like Trent Rezner (sp?), they'll just get guys to replace them like they have, and get the sound they want. I don't think they suck too bad.

Even if Head stuck with Korn, they would'nt be much different. Munky wrote most of the parts where as Head did't contribute so much.

Correction, Head wrote the basic riffs, and Munky played off of them with basic additions. That i why they have been struggling to write heavy music the past couple of albums.

Thank you... KoRn has kinda gone down in the passed couple of years, but can you blame them? How long have they been together? How much speculation has every member of the band been through? Head left to find something better for him.

Not much. All he did was be the rhythm guitarist and co-founder of a world famous band that was very good and sold a lot of records. Other than that, IDK cause he isnt a technically proficient player.

I think it's interesting how most of the nu-metal bands are falling apart. Linkin Park crapped out, Evanescence is barely recognizable, apparently people are tired of Seether, Staind took happy pills and lost most of their edge...anyone hear from Limp Bizkit these days? lol I heard that Slipknot is probably only going to do one more album as well. Disturbed is the only band that comes to mind that's still improving.

^Disturbed has switched to a more Hard Rock approach with their last album. But, yeah, I was afraid too that something happened with Munky. Personally, I really enjoy their last few albums, and I haven't been able to find a single best album for the fact they all have awesome songs, and better than other band songs with their lesser known tracks. But I'm looking forward to the next album, seems as it's supposed to be more raw and metal than even the first album!

everything a person says on this site is opinion.. doesn't really need to be stated. and serious changes in a band like korn's sound should be expected as the guys really begin to grow and develop families more and seriously mature. I mean, old korn thrived off of childhood and teenage traumas lyric-wise, which affected the feel of the rest of the elements. when Jon decides he is going to just be happy now that he has an entire family (and apparently he has that kind of determination), it's going to completely change how he thinks and writes; and, therefore, the sound. I like how their newer sounds developed a lot more in the latest album (compared to SYOTOS) and hope they keep it up

Used to be good friends with Shane Gibson before he moved to California. He used to live in my town and give guitar lessons here. I was always too intimidated and awed by his playing to ever get lessons. This is crazy. He is quite possibly the most technical guitar player on earth, playing with, quite possibly the least technical band on earth. Check out his myspace and webpage. Even Jason Becker gives mad props to his skill.

The circumstances sound fishy, I mean, if it was a real and serious family emergency they would have got a session guy or a friend of the band who knew the parts to fill in for a week or two. Like when the Beatles replaced Ringo for 3 weeks cuz of his tonsilitus.

Sounds to me like the guy got the boot by Davis, or he was being lazy and not showin up for other reasons- Otherwise thats bullshit to replace him cause hes going to see his family in an emergency. Munky or Davis wouldnt get replaced if they went for 2 weeks.

All i have to say is that Shane is one hell of a guitar player. I have talked with him befor and he is one hell of a guy. mabey this will change the korn sound if he lands a perm. spot with them. It wont happen though.

O the Deuce DVD it says that he got his finger chopped off I don't remember how. But he rehabilitated and showed that he could still become a good guitarist with his handicap.
