Courtney Love has claimed her late husband Kurt Cobain’s estate has been the victim of one of the largest cases of identity theft in US history.
The singer has presented police in Van Nuys, LA of details of a defraudment worth up to £36 million from the Nirvana star’s estate.
Love claims the scam has been going on for five years, with 188 credit cards being used in her name, as well as a $3.2 million New Jersey house purchased with Cobain’s social security number.
She tells The Sun, “ I did a check on my deceased husband's social security number and he has a house in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He bought it last year.
"I would like to know how. He should probably get his ass back home if that is the case.
"I knew it had been going on since when I went cuckoo - bananas - in 2003. It was fraud after fraud. But nobody believed me until now."
Love adds that monies have also been taken from the couple’s daughter Frances Bean’s trust fund.
“Taking a child's money and future is a really horrible thing,” she says.

: Good morning. My name is Dirk Gently and I, along with my other orange colleagues, will be monitoring this column. Please note that taking pot shots at Courtney Love and any other spam (including the inevitable murder conspiracy nonsense) will result in warnings. Thank you for reading Ultimate Guitar news articles and have a great day.

: nice disclaimer...^^
that pretty much ruins what i was goin to say.
but who can blame us for thinking she is using the money. she has been pretty much living on the money he left behind since he died.
obviously it sux that shit like this happens to people. at the same time, i feel somewhat a skeptic.
feel bad for francis bean too, she gets so much attention that she doesn't really want.
as far as Love's crazy days, she's had her ups and downs, all of which have been no worse than most other rock stars.
i honestly don't see why people like to make fun of her.
they laugh at her because she got messed up on drugs, but the other rock idols are famous even after ODing.
i personally enjoyed listening to Hole and hope she eventually goes back to that, although i don't really see that happening.
hope this isnt considered a potshot, i'm trying to stay neutral.POSTED: 03/10/2008 - 11:20 am / quote |

: that is a ton of money? I can't believe she was the only one to notice it till now. I mean, don't you have to show id sometimes when using a credit card? How did someone buy a house with a credit card?POSTED: 03/10/2008 - 12:49 pm / quote |

less well-known means less money, and i'm sure the people behind it (assuming its not courtney just ****ing around...) don't mind a challenge considering they got away with it for a while.POSTED: 03/10/2008 - 03:36 pm / quote |

: I don't see why she would fake this really. What does she have to gain from lying that someone bought a house in Kurt's name?
If she wants attention it's a pretty silly stunt to pull and for all her problems I don't believe she is that crazy.

Right on imo, whether you like Courtney Love or not you can't honestly believe she had him killed if you actually take the time to look at the facts/history.

I'm not saying that I beleive Courtney, but their are still lots of people that don't know Kurt Cobain. Maybe the people that sold the house were a bunch of old people. I bet my Grandma doesn't know who Kurt Cobain is. My mom didn't until I told her recently and I've had my stereo cranked with Nirvana tunes for the last 5 years or so but she didn't know who the guy singing was. But either way, this story does sound a bit fishy and Courntey is one of the last people out there that I would ever believe. She has lied a lot in the past. POSTED: 03/11/2008 - 01:47 am / quote |

not necessarily; there are many bankers and such that are prbably far richer than mr cobain. look at the rich list that Bill Gates is now third of, and see how many you've heard of.POSTED: 03/11/2008 - 05:50 am / quote |

: if courtney made this up its either paranoia or she's running out of money an wants to claim back all the "stolen cash"
Who knows it could be some determined nirvana fan that wants to make sure they take every penny of kurts money off courney lolPOSTED: 03/11/2008 - 08:26 am / quote |

: Don't worry, Courtney will be fine. She'll just license some Nirvana songs to GM or Ford or some other large advertiser. Look for "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" in a Cadillac commercial coming soon to a TV near you!POSTED: 03/11/2008 - 10:32 am / quote |
