Lamb Of God, Iron Maiden, Slayer Among 'Golden Gods' Nominees

Lamb Of God is the favorite to walk off with the silverware at this year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, according to The Sun Online.

The Virginia-based group is up for an impressive five gongs, including "Best Album", "Best Live Band" and "Best International Band".

And the fifth annual Metal Hammer bash, set to be held on June 11 at Koko in London, should be quite a party.

In attendance will be emo kings My Chemical Romance, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and Marilyn Manson along with his new girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood.

Also up for awards are British Iron Maiden, Velvet Revolver and Avenged Sevenfold.

Killswitch Engage should be nominated for best live band. i saw them a couple of weeks ago, and they put on an amazing show, better than Dragonforce in my opinion, and i even like Dragonforce better.

Anyone heard of Firewind and Gus G... I'm suprised their not in the underground category/shredder/newcomers (although their not technically newcomers but their gonna be big soon). I would put them in there anyday. There are loads more bands not even mentioned there who could be contenders.

I don't pay much attention to these awards anyway. It's usually just the commercial stuff backed by the big labels. Same with festivals E.G. Linkin Park are Headlining a day at download festival over Megadeth. Warner Bros must have coughed up some serious cash.

I saw Megadeth in March with Heaven & Hell.

Lineup was Down, Megadeth, then Black Sabbath. I can honestly say I'm glad that Megadeth isn't up there for best live. Dave is certainly no frontman.

anyway, there are definitely bands up there that i have my hopes up for (lamb of god, mastodon, iron maiden, etc...) i just seriously hope that avenged sevenfold, trivium, MCR, or BFMV don't get sh*t... ...if they did, that would be proof that the metal world is falling to pieces. if any of these bands win, then people all over are gonna start labeling MCR as "metal" with Metal Hammer to justify it. ...i'm pretty damn scared that people are gonna lose sight of what metal really is, if BFMV gets anything, people are gonna start thinkin' "hey, if they can put cheesy lyrics and riffs into a song {though i'll admit, some are cool} and still win an award for Metal Hammer Golden Gods, then they still must be metal!" BFMV don't have much about them that's metal other then distorted guitars and double bass...they try too hard and fail.

and trivium, for god's sake, enough people out there (including myself) hate them so much already, why hasn't anybody killed 'em yet? damn, it seems as though nobody knows what metal is now a days, then a band like trivium comes along with heavy riffs and junk in attempt to sound metal, and because they actually pull off the image somewhat, people start sayin "OMG trivium is totally,like, metall LAWLZ!!!" trivium are way too focused on putting on an image and tryin to be cool. they're fake... why doesn't anybody realize this!? they're such posers, if they ever win any award for metal i don't think i could ever be proud to call myself a metalhead again... ...if a band like trivium achieves something like this in metal, then metal will never be a respectable genre again, and metalheads will be stereotyped as dumbsh*ts with no knowledge or understanding of art, culture, individuality, or taste in music.

and avenged sevenfold... i really don't know what to say... really wimpy, and metal doesn't even know of the word "wimpy," other then that, i just hate their music.

i don't think that list really showed "shredders" per say, but i think they're all great guitarists one way or another. other then that i totally agree with you... but i think you forgot one thing: award things like this also give recognition to bands that don't deserve it...

Mustaine has to win the riff lord cause most people pick Iommi just becuase he was in Sabbath, Mustaines riffs are much better than Iommi's imo. Even though I don't like Alexi he should win the shredder award because compared to the rest he is better.

I like Mark and Willie the most out of that list but Alexi is just better.

As much as I hate to say it...Lamb of God. Of course, Slayer is my favorite band, but that video sucked ASS. All you did was stare at an eye for 5 minutes. All those other bands sucked, anyway.

Riff Lord:
It was a close choice, but I picked Dave Mustaine over Slash.

Best Shredder:
Alexi Laiho. He always plays fast solos, even when he does "artistic restraints". Ha. Trivium was second. Their solos kind of sound the same to me.

Best Label:
Roadrunner, definitely. They have most of my favorite bands signed to that label. I hope to get signed to that one someday myself!

Best Event:
Unholy Alliance. I was gonna go to that tour, but right as I found out about it, it was too late to get tickets.

Album of the Year:
Ooh, tough one. I know Maiden's gonna win it, because y'know, they're Maiden, but I've heard a couple of Machine Head songs so I'd have to go with the "Blackening". They used to be nu-metal, and they went to hardcore metal, with harmonized solos, and everthing. Pretty badass.
