Linkin Park Singer Denies That He Plans To Join Velvet Revolver

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, has denied that he is set to replace Scott Weliand in Velvet Revolver, reports GIGWise.com.

Weiland acrimoniously split from the band in April at the conclusion of their European tour.

Since then, there has been much speculation about who would replace the singer, with reports claiming that the band would audition for a new frontman using a Reality TV show.

Speaking to Kerrang, Bennington said that any reports linking him to the position were the result of a misunderstanding.

"I'm friends with all the guys in Velvet Revolver and have played with all of them before. I'm friends with Scott too,” he said.

"I think the rumour that I was going to join Velvet Revolver started because (guitarist) Slash asked me if I'd come play a show with them in Vegas right around the time that Scott left the band.

"Timing-wise, it didn't work out for me, though. Maybe people assumed that invitation meant I was joining the band."

However, Bennington did say that if he was no longer in Linkin Park he would be tempted to join Velvet Revolver.

"If I wasn't in Linkin Park any more and I didn't know Scott, though, I'd say yes. Who wouldn't? The music is great and it would be a really cool opportunity,” he said.

chester isn't the best singer live, but he has his moments. i saw linkin park live and he did an excellent performance. however, i saw some youtube clips and he wasn't all that great. i actually think if he were to join VR it would sound really good. i'm glad he isn't because i really like linkin park. his vocals would work pretty good for VR. imagine chester singing "fall to pieces." it would work. even if chester joined VR i would still say scott was better for VR, though.

Anyhow, I can't agree with Chris Cornell. The guy is extremely talented, but he is a bit arrogant, and ruined the best thing he's done after Soundgarden (I mean audioslave for people that don't remember). I haven't given the Casino Royale stuff a listen, so I'll have to check that out. Personally, I'd like to see them get someone that isn't famous, to cultivate some of the talent around. That or get a vocalist they've worked with before (not Axl).

I know most of you guys who claim Chester to be terrible haven't honestly heard him sing... personally, MOST of the time, I think he kicks Scott's ass in talent. Chester is not perfect live, but he is usually right on the money and sounds amazing. I lost any hope for this band after listening to Minutes To Midnight...they seem to have deliberately played it safe and just gone for mainstream acceptance...God, "What I've Done" was the song that made the intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorusx2-outro format present in modern music plainly clear to me. Their previous albums had some edge, but now the novelty seems to have worn off, and they're stuck without any new ideas.

Dammit, I've gone and written a LP hate post. But what I meant to say was that I can't picture Chester fitting into VR. Too much teenage angst still in his voice.

i think they should just hold some auditions an make em well publiscised, like most other big bands when they need a new member (metallica, Ozzy, Judas Priest), cos i think they need some new blood rather than some1 who's been there, cos lets face it most frontmen their age have 2 big an ego and 2 small of a shelf life on their voice.

i think they would sound like a punk rock band with the linkin park singer but a very good punk rock band it even might sound like a GN'R 2 with the sound of that guys voice compared to axls old voice at the beginning of the GN'R

Seriously, he CAN sing. Search "Linkin Park Live Walmart" on youtube and scroll to Breaking the Habit or Pushing Me Away. He is an amazingly great singer live.

I dont care if at some concerts he's off tone for a second, not one singer from any band live have I heard them sing 100%.

But I have. Chester (and the rest of the band) were absolutely AMAZING. Chester can sing. His voice is flawless both on CD and live.
