With all the companies and organizations that exist for the sole purpose of making money at your expense, it’s nice to hear about groups that are created with the intention of helping others. Little Kids Rock is just that: a non-profit organization designed to help bring music back into schools and give the less fortunate a chance to experience a life full of music.
Little Kids Rock is an organization established in 2002 that realizes the importance of music and how it can benefit children in many ways. They provide free rock n’ roll instruments like drums and guitars as well as a musical education to students in under funded schools without proper music programs. So far the program has reached over 1,200 schools and over 54,000 students, helping kids in over 23 cities all over the United States.
On top of everything else they do, Little Kids Rock is about to host their second annual "Right To Rock" event which will take place in New York City at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill. The benefit will take place on October 21st from 6:30 to 9:30 and will feature live music, awards, and the announced winners of a very special auction containing custom, one-of-a-kind guitars (along with other rock memorabilia) from some of the greatest players out there.
Those attending "Right To Rock" will experience first hand the effect Little Kids Rock has had on children when they see some of the student bands performing and showcasing their talent. Attendees will also be treated to some adult rock bands as well as the special guest headliners Vanilla Fudge, a band that rock gods Led Zeppelin opened for in the beginnings of their career.
Guests of the event will get to see some homage paid to the individuals who have supported and helped Little Kids Rock, with honourees Kris Allen (the winner of American Idol Season 8), Captain Rob Snyder, Nancy Phillips, and Andrew Davis, founder of Music Empowers Foundation.
Those interested in the aforementioned guitar auction can visit LittleKidsRock to check out and bid on some of the custom guitars made by heroes such as Slash, Joe Satriani, Gene Simmons, James Hetfield, Stephen Colbert, and many, many more. Each of the thirty artists involved in the auction have personally decorated a single Fender Stratocaster with their own design, making them rare, one-of-a-kind items. Other items like Neil Peart’s cymbals and drumsticks signed by Ringo Starr will also be auctioned.
For those interested in sponsoring this great program, opportunities range from anywhere between $3,500 to $35,000. Individual tickets for the "Right To Rock" event are also sold (each ticket covers the price of a meal, all of the entertainment, and souvenirs) which cost $250 each. All proceeds will be going towards helping the less fortunate schools and people get a chance to experience music.
