'Lost' Jimi Hendrix Song Found

artist: jimi hendrix date: 01/04/2007 category: general music news

An eight track recording has been discovered which allegedly contains a version of the Welsh national anthem by Jimi Hendrix.

Producer Dave Chapman discovered the songs by the band the New Flames when he was looking through tapes in a tea chest at London’s Crouch Hill studios.

Hendrix was close friends with New Flames bassist Viv Williams who is believed to have drafted the legendary guitarist in for a psychedelic interpretation of "Hen Wlyd Fy Nhadau" – "The Land Of My Fathers."

As the Guardian reports, the tape’s owner Marin Davies wants to confirm the authenticity of the recording with Williams.

He said: “We would know exactly who made the recording if we could find Viv Williams. He must be about 64 years old. If anyone knows his whereabouts, please let us know.

Thanks for the report to GIGWise.com.

I think it sounds damn good and it has the effect of jimi's American national anthem sort of.

I've heard it, and it just hasn't got that psycadelic virtuosity that's in Hendrix's playing; it's just a few sustained notes with some distortion. I can't see it being confirmed but you never know.

That's definitely not 'Drix playing. The red dragon hood site says that the guy was a friend of hendrix. Maybe he was influenced by him and did it himself?

i like how everyone is relating the song from the story with one on the internet. If has just been found there is absolutely no way it would be on the net right now. What you guys have heard is probably another band but Hendrix certainly could have done a version too

it doesn't sound too much like hendrix to me...sure, same sort of style and it's an idea that sounds like something he might have done but i don't think the playing sounds like his.

My thought exactly! I was confused about how everyone thought they'd already heard it.

You have to remember that Hendrix really hadn't developed his style by the time this recording would have taken place. So don't be surprised if it underwhelms.

That recording, to me, sounds more like something an inexperienced steve vai would play. I say this because of all of the whammy usage. Jimi never used the whammy bar like that. I also love how everyone on here is arguing about what an 8-track is. LMAO

Kutanmoogle :
I get the feeling that the recording on the website is Gwilym's, but that the 8-track recording found is not the same.

Tich Gwilym died last year (RIP) and had a recording of the welsh anthem already.

I looked this up on google cause that red dragonhood website wasn't working for me. Anyway heres what i found just to help settle the deal about this thing being earlier or later during Hendrix's career it says:

If this is Jimi Hendrix on the recording then it would be one of his last recordings before his death on September 18, 1970.

I dunno if this source has any evidence as to this being one of his LAST recordings but thought I'd help. Here's the website url if anyone wants to read a more. http://bandweblogs.com/blog/2007/01/02/jimi-hendrix-and-the-wels

It's not hendrix.....full stop
It was played on the BBC Wales news several times with many guitarist's including Phil Campbell from Motorhead.
All of which agreed that it is not Hendrix at all, and having heard it myself, I also agree that it isn't Hendrix....It's a very good rendition, and it sounds similar to something Hendrix would do, but end of story, it's not
