Lostprophets Win Kerrang! Award

Lostprophets were named the Best British Band of the year at the Kerrang! awards, held in London last night.

The Welsh rockers, who are currently in the States working on their fourth album, won the award for the second year running.

The band beat fellow Welshmen Funeral For A Friend who failed to walk away with any awards despite being up for Best British Band and Best Single.

Welsh band Kids In Glass Houses were beaten to the Best Newcomer award by band Gallows.

Unsigned band Enter Shikari were double winners. The foursome from St Albans were named Best Live Band, beating Lostprophets, and also picked up the Spirit of Independence Award.

I do like Lostprophets. Their singles from Liberation Transmission have been pretty catchy, but nowhere near as good as their first album. What I've heard off the new album sounds pretty good - going back to their roots.

I think Kerrang needs to be totally relaunched. They need to quit with the stupid poppy crap and go back to proper rock. Their are so many great bands around today, yet the poppy stuff featured in Kerrang. They often feature the likes of Muse, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Velvet Revolver but the pop stuff way outnumbers it. It could be good but it needs more real rock. Plus, it's got pretty expensive... £2.10 a week is way too much.

I'll pick it up if there's a free CD or a decent poster (there was a great one of Dimebag a few weeks ago and its huge).

Machine Head! What a turn around for a band that looked totally ****ed a few years ago when they were dropped from their label. On top of the world again. What about Iron Maiden? They've not exactly been inactive this last year - new album, 2 tours incl headlining download festival for the 4th time. could easily have swept the board imo. Also they were one of the bands that helped make Kerrang! way back when and they're ignored most of the time now. I really didn't like Liberation Transmission, I thought it was terrible compared to Star Something (one of the best albums I own, along with Dark Side Of The Moon and The Poison). They let me down.

HOWEVER

how good your music is doesnt depend on how good your guitarist is. and yeah, there are alot of great guitarists on UG, and they could wipe most radio guitarists out. but who really gives a shit? do you like the music that you like because you really like it or do you like it because you like the guitarist? do you listen to your favorite bands because of what they say or what they play? id rather listen to a band for amazing lyrics rather than amazing solos.

Best International Newcomer - MCR? Surely the best international band this year should be Machine Head, MH wipe MCR off whatever planet they come from. Enter Shikari getting the "Spirit Of Independence" award is total bollocks, especially considering some of the bands that have got it previously (Napalm Death etc.)
There is nothing particularly original about their music and they have just taken two kinds of music popular with scene kids in their shitty screamy stuff mixed with the "rave" bullshit.
Totally about catering to the mainstream, no matter how hard they deny it. There are so many bands that mix dance and rock music so much better than Shitkari but unsurprisingly get no recognition. All they do is play some crappy post-hardcore nonsense and throw in a few synths. The way they do it clashes way too much for my liking.

Oh and about Lostprophets, they released a not so great album but this is definitely not the end for them and they haven't "thrown it away".
They will be back, no doubt about it.

Best Live Band should have easily gone to Muse. They are the most epic live act I have seen in a while. Can't wait till they come back to NZ in November. I do agree with the best video though. Taking the piss out of hip-hop is always a laugh.
