Matchbook Romance Split Up For Good

artist: matchbook romance date: 03/13/2007 category: general music news
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Matchbook Romance have called it a day. The band formed in 1997, and was brought to the attention of Epitaph records by this story in 2002. Under their original name, The Getaway, they soon joined the label and opened up the floor to suggest a new name.

The band explained:

"Today is a sad day. Because it is on this day that we, the members of Matchbook Romance, have decided to part ways and go on an indefinite hiatus. This was not at an easy decision for us to come to, as it seems it's taken months for the words to even form on the tips of our tongues. Its a decision that we thought we would never have to make, but unfortunately, after 5 years its a decision that best suits our situations."

The band released their last album, "Voices", in 2006.

damn, i loved those guys, well kudos for having the guts to get together as a band and talk it out, instead of having diva attitudes and walking out. maybe there will be a re-union in the future

Dude, don't be an ass. I personally hate this band, but I'm not replying to a news story about them throwing in the towel and saying "This is the best news I've ever heard in my life." Your comment is as worthless as you are.

outerheaven2005 wrote on 03/13/2007 - 07:39 pm / quote |
i liked them a long time ago, but when i saw them for free recently, they were just a mess. they didn't scream in songs where they used to years before. they were just very very off. it was probably a good idea to break up

Um...if you don't know, why does it even matter? Why are you reading news about bands you have never heard of? That just seens stupid to me. If you're trying to educate yourself on a new band, I completely support that. But don't make yourself out to be an idiot by posting on a topic of which you know nothing.

And with that out of the way... They weren't really high on my list of favorite bands, but I'm sad to see them go.

norte i think they were making a joke about how matchbook romance is not entirely that important.

well if it is HEADLINE NEWS then it must be important. Just another American double barreled named, schmoltzy 'i have a sensitive soul, but i also rock like bon jovi when the girls are watching' type bands. The world is not worse off for the demise of this combo.

Ok, GTSZ320, you have no idea what youre talking about, for one, there is no such thing as an emo kid, just psychotic kids. psychotic kids slit their wrists, emo kids are nonexistent... and if you have an opinion on an emo band, especially matchbook romance, like that, keep it to yourself, because even though some people may agree with you, alot are throwing darts at a picture of your head right now...matchbook romance was a great band and they will be missed..

^only their first album was "emo". voices was great, but totally different style

PAsistem wrote on 03/14/2007 - 01:23 pm / quote |
the headline says they split up "for good", but if its an "indefinite hiatus", they could get together next week for all we know.

lilmittyjr wrote on 11/23/2007 - 02:57 pm / quote |
they werent even an emo band, listen to Voices and Stories and Alibis before you judge anything, they are 180 degrees away from another, and both albums are amazing

smartfella90 wrote on 11/24/2008 - 02:52 pm / quote |
