Maynard James Keenan Says A Perfect Circle Is Still Alive

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan sent an email to fans last week in which he said that A Perfect Circle, the band he formed in 2000 with guitarist Billy Howerdel, is still a going concern even though both Keenan and Howerdel are both now involved with other projects. Keenan wrote, "As many of you may have heard, Billy and I are engaged in our own little projects for the moment. His is called Ashes Divide and mine is called Puscifer...Please be advised that A Perfect Circle and Tool are still alive and well. This is simply more." A Perfect Circle went on hiatus in 2004 after issuing three studio albums and one live set, while Keenan went back to work with Tool and Howerdel began assembling ashes Divide.

Ashes Divide's debut album, "Keep Telling Myself It's Alright", was released last month, with Howerdel unveiling the project's touring lineup this past weekend.

Keenan issued the debut Puscifer album, "V Is For Vagina", last fall, and continues to work on additional music for the project.

Tool's latest album, "10,000 Days", surfaced almost exactly two years ago, and Keenan has said recently that the band could regroup later this year to begin work on its next effort.

Howerdel told The Pulse of Radio last year that he wasn't really sure whether A Perfect Circle would ever be reactivated, saying, "We might do something in the future, but all I can see is Ashes Divide right now. That's kind of all I have in front of me."

I hope APC puts out somethin better than Emotive if they are gonna get back together.

Everything after 13th Step is pretty worthless, imo.

Ashes Divide is pretty good, for sounding like 30 seconds to Mars, but it's somewhat average compared to MdN and 13S.

Puscifer is damn horrible, too.

Puscifer and Ashes Divide are both awesome projects, unless you actually want to listen to them.

my only concern is that billy will do more of the vocals like he did on emotive... which was not a good album... his voice is so much weaker than maynards it would be a shame to obscure the well written music with it... really hope this happens though, I am intrigued...

Doesn't he just sing on one, maybe 2 songs? Freedom of Choice is the only song that pops up.

ashes divide just sounds like APC without maynard. they should have just sat on it until maynard was done with puscifer.

Not really. A few APC-ish parts pop up, but overall, I think Billy was trying to not sound like APC.

i actually really like puscifer, mostly because its such a different setting to hear maynard's voice in. i would love to hear more stuff like that from him. and ashes divide was a decent record, its not the best music billy has put out, his work with apc is a lot more dynamic in my opinion, a lot of the stuff on ashes divide sounds all the same. but i'd take new tool or apc over puscifer and ashes divide any day.

cool. interesting to hear tool may be meeting later this year to work on a new album. still seems like 10000 days just came out. i dont know why everyone bashed emotive, i thought it was pretty good (though admittedly i liked the other two better).

i also like puscifer, at least to a point. some of the songs are funny/cool, but there are a couple on the album i would personally rather not listen to... for the most part though i enjoy the album.

ashes divide... previewed it on itunes, and most of the songs sound pretty similar. not a bad effort, but i think im gonna have to skip over that one.

I used to have an APC album which i was given about 7 or so years ago. I didn't really like it or give it a great listen to.

Though since i've got into Tool i think i should go back and try and find that album, all i remember is that it had a song on it called Judith.

Thats good that APC still plans on being a band and releasing more stuff. Anything Maynard done with Tool and APC has been great. He needs to keep on with those two bands and not stray away from them.

I think Maynard should do what ever damn well pleases him. Tool, APC, Puscifer, all of it is great. How long can anyone stay with one idea and not feel constrained. That's why those three projects are so great, its like new breath each time. As far as Ashes Divide, I have no opinion because I haven't given them a good listen. But I'm expecting good things.

I've been quite disappointed with Ashes Divide - Howerdell was basicaly trying to sound like Keenan with his vocals, so he might as well have just done another APC album... It still pisses on Emotive though.

billy is a great musician and maynard as well whatever album they put out is fine.but if they get back with APC thats alot better for me. its one of the greatest bands imo

i mean i like the tool songs that are actually music....are you telling me you listen to the seashell songs and go "oh this is amazing"
