Megadeth To Rock For Darfur

According to PerthNow, Megadeth is one of the bands taking part in the second annual "Rock for Darfur" event on Saturday, November 10, according to Blabbermouth.net.

This one-day philanthropic concert-event was created by MySpace to generate awareness and raise funds for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. It sees the world’s biggest music names uniting to make a positive impact on the Darfur crisis.

This massive global event will see concerts take place across four continents and showcase bands passionate about promoting peace in the troubled African region.

Fans can show their support for the cause by attending one of the local concerts taking place.

The Australian lineup for "Rock for Darfur" on November 10 includes Megadeth's concert at Metro City in Perth. Also scheduled to appear are Static-X, Lacuna Coil and Devildriver.

MySpace has arranged for a portion of all proceeds from each concert, to be donated to Oxfam America, a leading international relief and development organization, and to the Save Darfur Coalition, an alliance of more than 180 faith-based, advocacy and human rights organizations, united together to help the people of Darfur.

The Save Darfur Coalition raises public awareness about the ongoing genocide in Darfur and mobilises a unified response to the atrocities that threaten the lives of people throughout the Darfur region.

Why is it that every one will group together to raise money for another country but they dont do anything about the problems here. How about a fund raiser to buy me a new Jackson!!

It was obviously a joke, idiot. He started out by pointing out that there are plenty of problems in their home country and yet charity seems to be more publicised for other coutnries, which is a seriously valid idea, and then made a joke that his getting a new guitar was a charity cause.

Look to my comments the semi-recent guest article on Bono. Trying doesn't mean anything, and will frequently make the problem worse.

How much research do you think all of you have done on Darfur? How much do you know about the region? I'm not attacking anybody in particular, but this whole "awareness" argument just seems really silly to me. Most of the kids I've met who claim to be really passionate about the issue can't name the two ethnic groups at war, haven't heard about the water rights argument, can't name (or pronounce) the capital of Sudan, and **** if they can find it on a map. The money going to NGOs will make a minimal impact, but will do nothing to end the actual conflict. You want something to happen there, then get China to stop trading with them and have Russia stop being essentially isolationists so that the Security Council can take action. Yes, with guns. The current government in Sudan won't stop just because Dave can belt out Hangar 18.

Yeah. NGO's do a lot of good too though, it's just that this situation is one that requires a government interference. Some drastic measures need to be taken. And i think it's pretty pathetic that "a portion" of the proceeds get donated, why not all of them? If you really care, don't worry about ****ing paying off workers, it's for charity, you don't get paid. Weak.

troyponce has a point.

Most of the money is actually spent on advertisements and etc to raise awareness.

Sounds like a vicious cycle to me. Get more money to make it more aware, in order to get more money.

Yeah it really is a valid idea. I mean look at us in the USA with all our huge insurmountable problems, I mean it's not like we're the richest country on Earth or something; groups should really start doing fundraising for us.

Valid point? What the hell kind of brain damage is that? I hope I totally misread your comment and that you're not agreeing with that jackass idea of our domestic problems being more serious or urgent than the wholesale slaughter and rape of civilians in Sudan. And yes, I wrote a term paper on the Darfur conflict so I do know what I'm talking about.

Yay for Dave. I'm a huge supporter of the relief in Darfur. I've wrote two or three letters to the president (doesn't really matter, but I got a letter back from the White House ) I bought one of the shirts to support the cause, and i spread the word to whoever will listen. +1 for all the bands supporting this.

Same here but for me its a new amp and on the 1llusions comment they will stop when Dave belts out Rust in peace. I really find it funny how after every time there is "ethnic cleansing" very little is done to stop these actions. Seriously how ****ed up is it when people keep saying never again and yet it keeps happening, I wonder why this is. The bottom line is wars are expensive and in the grand scheme of things to many countries correction the world $>people.

That makes no sense at all.
Why is everyone so concerned with their home country :S Bunch of nationalists.
What this organisation is doing is raising awareness over a big issue. The problems in Sudan are far bigger than the problems in the USA so isn't it logical to do something about that first?

To bhe fair, with a name like that, I like your flair!
Pretty much says it all. Where there's people in a shit way, there's a bun ch of bullies with Klashnikovs living the high life. Cases in point? Darfur, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan (before the US and UK got involved, although flame away, I dare you). Remove the warlords & warbands by force, make sure they don't get replaced, & it'll be better.

Does Darfur really care about a concert?

I highly doubt it.

"MySpace has arranged for a portion of all proceeds from each concert"

..A portion? Why not ALL? This is just a big advertising campaign for myspace. It's worse than those dollar balloons they sell at the walmart where they give 10 cents from every dollar to a charity or something. "Look at how much we save the world", gtfo. Plus, how much are these bands getting paid for this? I think that's an important question before you brand them Saints. How much money is involved for the band? Good publicity and money are great, do these bands even care about Darfur?

I know I'm completely ignorant to what goes on in Darfur. I know it's in trouble, and thats where my knowledge ends.

But I know the greed in people, probably because I am one, and exploitation of world crisis' for money is a major problem.

Look at all the 9/11 movies made. Other than for money, what purpose do they serve? We all know what happened because we've all seen the news. Why do we need semi fictitious characters to exaggerate the events for us? Probably because Hollywood has run low on ideas and a certain director/writer or whatever you want to call them needs and easy buck.

I've never watched a September 11th movie, and don't plan on it.
I've never, out of my own will, watched a movie about WWII. I have play Medal of Honor, though. So I guess that makes me a hypocrite. Oh well.

/pointless, endless, ignorant rant.

dude do you think megadeth needs anymore money, they've been one of the best metal bands for like 20 years.so they're not doing it for the money. im really for the cause in darfur, some bad shit is going on there, we NEED to help. but do you honestly think 5 members of a metal band are going to start war with hundreds of thousands of armed soldiers. no they're not going to start a war, they're going to do what they can to to help, thats all they can do aside from electing politicians who can offer military or mass help, but i commend megadeth, good music, good cause
