Blabbermouth.net reports, Pitchshifter have posted the following message on their web site: "It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you of the death of one of Pitchshifter's own. Darryl Kempster (photo), longtime Pitchshifter cohort and merch man has been murdered.
"On tour with another company in South Africa, Darryl was shot dead yesterday in cold blood. Darryl was a truly great person and one of our family. We had many, many great times together on the road from '94 onward all over the world. Darryl had the Pitchshifter eye logo tattooed on the back of his neck as a sign of his support and faith in us all as a band and as people. He actually met more Pitchshifter fans than we did. He sold them all their shirts. He was our face behind the booth. Many of you will remember him.
"We had planned to have
Darryl with us on the upcoming UK shows. He was one of those guys who never complained even though we could never really pay him what he was worth. You knew you could always count on him on the road.
"Darryl was estranged from his family and so we cannot offer you an address to send flowers. He was a true believer in the vegan way of life and we would like to suggest that if any of you wish to make a donation in his memory you should make it to the Vegan Society. He would have liked that.
"We are all very shocked and upset by Darryl's death. Pitchshifter have lost one of our family and the world has lost a truly genuine and vital person. Peace to Darryl Kempster."
