Despite harsh competition by artists like Ne-Yo and Nelly, Metallica managed to stay at the top of the Billboard 200 for a second week in a row.
"Death Magnetic", Metallica’s first record since 2003’s "St. Anger" sold over 337,000 copies this week. This brings the album’s total sales in the United States to 827,000 copies.
"
Death Magnetic" made an impressive debut in its first week on the charts, selling 490,000 copies and debuting at number 1 even though the album released on a Friday rather than earlier in the week like most albums. This marked the band’s 5th album to debut at number 1, making them the first band in history to do so.
Much of the record’s success can be attributed to the extensive airplay of its first single, "The Day That Never Comes", which topped the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The album also managed to beat out heavyweights such as Ne-Yo and Nelly, who came in at 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In other Metallica news, the band was recently nominated to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
