I love Metallica but this kinda shit disapoints me completely.

LAME! Its so hard when it is a great band you love acting like money-grabbing twats.

I half doubt this news is true.

UG should also post this text after the article...

"UPDATE:

Over on the Harmonix's forum boards, HMXSean, one of the community forum leaders, chimed in with an important announcement, stating that the article originally written by Daily Gaming is false.

According to the forum post, HMXSean said, "In no way is this true. It is well written satire but it is very much satire."

HMXSean has since closed the forum post, disallowing comments. You can, however, read about it at the forum link we have below."

T his story is entirely falsified. Anyone reading the initial articles should be able to tell it's fake. No professional business person embroiled in legal trouble is going to use the wording they did and this is not the first time UG has falsely reported a Metallica lawsuit (Such as the "Metallica sues Canadian band over chord progression" or "Metallica sues Beatallica" debacles, the first of which was false and the second Sony was suing Beatallica and Lars ponied up for Beatallica's legal defense).

UG should either take the article down or revise it with the update that it's an utter load of crap, this is just unprofessional tabloid garbage.

I could understand a struggling underground band doing something like this but not ****ing Metallica. They need to get their head out of their arses and think "Jesus, we actually don't need more money and enemies."

They lost a lot of respect and fans after the Napster incident, and now this. Lars...grow the **** up!

Their reasoning is that people will stop buying their records if their songs are on a video game. Well, isn't it just one song? If anything that is advertising for the band because I doubt if someone loves that 1 song then their gonna be like "okay well I'll just buy video games now that has Metallica music in it"

Okay, first off yeah Lars is a piss-ant we all know that and i guarantee that this has stemmed out from the whole napster lawsuit. Someone who is pissed off because they got sued along with napster and had to pay out the ass for it. Like what has been said by the head of the one forum its most likely false. But because of the bands past it could be true. Let sit back and see how this folds out if nothing more is really said lets back metallica if they are suing it should be the end of the bands career.

did anyone else notice that^
i've never heard a song called "a" by Metallica

"Metallica's counsel, on the other hand, explained that the band is fearful that album sales will decline because consumers can easily get hold of their songs just by purchasing video game titles."

why would they be worried about people getting their songs from video games? only one of their songs would be on one video game.

and if someone plays that game and hears one of their songs they may like it and buy the album

plus, if someone was looking to get their music, buying their cd is alot cheaper than buying the whole video game

Seriously though, once a b¡tch, always a b¡tch. The reason people are so ready to believe this story (yes, I know it's satirical) is the Napster incident. Don't rag on these people too hard, the Dopplegangers That Took Place of Metallica deserve it.

(Personal note: I loved Metallica up to and including S&M ever since the release of Load (and their 80s sh¡t was the best))

Plus **** people who think Metallica should have retired years ago. Music is about playing what you love and not what others tell you to. I might not like some of their later stuff but I would never rip on the boys for doing what they wanna do. Fans should not dictate what bands play. When you start out playing guitar, you play what you wanna play not what others tell you to, why should that change when you get signed? Get over it. At least theyre not like Megadeth and still stuck in the 80s!

The lawyer added, "The band learned its lesson the hard way with file sharing in the late 90s. This time they want to do a pre-emptive strike before the music gets out there".

That is just crap.and im a fan of Metallica. Why would they not have control over what new material goes on a game? and how does "just" getting a 90 dollar game decrease their sales? maybe if they made better albums and didnt charge 75 bucks to see new shit music they wouldnt have such a problem. This is rediculous and i hope people continue downloading them and ridiculing them because just like the jokes, they really are caricatures of themselves.

i find it kinda gets annoying every metallica article or anything always the same comments...Metallica used to be good in the 80s now they just suck....some from people who probably weren't even alive during the 80s to know what the scene was like.....you can hear all the songs and see all the shows about what it was like but being there is a different thing....i saw metallica back then....i also saw them a few years ago...and i saw mostly the same faces on stage as i did back then.....i don't get why ignorant people always trash them for thier recenter work, just cuz it doesn't sound like thier first few albums...i think its good stuff....and yeah its different but i for one would be bored of the same style of music and playing it for over 20 years i see no problem with them changing it up.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. People buy video games for the game itself not the music. Why the heck would someone buy a video game just for a song or two when they can buy the bands cd for alot cheaper.
They are basically saying that someone will buy a video game for $60 cause it has a metallica song on it instead of paying $15 for their cd with that song on it. And the dumbest thing about this whole thing is that metallica agreed to have their songs in these video games. I disagreed with metallica sueing napster but I could understand where they were coming from, but this is just total bullshit. True, I was starting to feel my anti-Metallica spirit comming back to life. They should at least name the article "Metallica Sue Video Game Companies: It's all BS"

Seriously, if they're gonna tell you about how something they reported on earlier is fake why don't they just make that the headline instead of letting us all think that Metallica are actually being a bunch of greedy bastards and have us wait until the very end of the article to say so?

Seriously UG, I love this website, but your newscrew has been doing a fairly poor job as of late. I'm not saying I can do better, but isn't this supposed to be their job? Come on!! What's with all the articles that just present opinion columns as actual news that only end up causing flame wars across the comment section?

I say this with all the respect and affection I have for UG: you news guys need to pick up the slack and get your shit together

Actually they have one of the best best selling back catalogs currently, maybe people should think for themselves and not just mindlessly attack Metallica just because they're the biggest metal band. Maybe people should also actually read the article first, it's a joke, it says so on the bottom, but then again judging from a lot of these comments illiteracy does seem to be a common trait here.

i really respect what ya said there man. i agree with the load/reload thing. if any other band under any other name were to have put those out, i bet all these metallica fans would love that band and love those songs. but since metallica experimented with some new styles (aka "sold out" as people love to say) so many people will refuse to listen to same great songs on those albums.
some people are so close minded. and this article proves that. it goes to show that, even if the story were to be legite, people would back it simply for the sake that its putting "metallica" and "sue" in the same sentence. you can read it once and see how incredibly biased it is, true or not.

Yeah, Kirk, who is married with a wife, is really homosexual. What does a band's sexuality have anything to do this with this article anyway?!

How, in any sense, is Rob Trujilo a gorilla? I simply do not understand that statement.

Any, for goodness sakes, lay off Lars. Have you not heard his drumming at the end of One? What does this stuff (lawsuits, Napster etcetera) even have to do with music? It is a MUSICAL GRUP not a group of lawyers!

And as for James following Lars...do you know who these people actually are? Have you ever even heard/seen Metallica!?

Any at least try to make your grammar readable.

People need to learn to read, and/or have some faith in this bunch of genius musicians. Even if this article didn't say "fake" on it, I still wouldn't believe it, because I know Metallica wouldn't sink that low. The Anti-Napster crusade was good, because downloading music is, in fact, illegal. But they have contracts with Harmonix and Activision licencing these songs, and they simply aren't that stupid. It's $20 for a whole CD, but $50-$60 for a videogame with one song on it. How in the hell is that cheaper? If anything, it'd be better (for Metallica) to buy the video game.

I like how the spokesman for the gaming company was like, "I don't know what could've happen unless they turned batshit." Or something like that. Hilarious.

Fuck, Metallica. JUST MAKE MUSIC. If anything, the song would build hype for the new album, unless the album sucked.

depends. If i was stinking rich, and i didnt get an extra $10 million on top of my $30 million, but i knew that i had essentially just given $30 (price of cd in nz) to hundreds, thousands of people, id still be pretty happy. theyre still fans, and fans come to shows.
On the other hand, while its not metallica that really should be getting upset, at least someone is. Maybe, they could really solve the problem and reduce the cost of a cd. Ill admit to downloading, mostly stuff i cant find in stores or bands that i dont really know or like enough, but if cd's were cheaper, id buy em.

This is a fake. Metallica aren't that old. Suing Napster was a good idea. Because God forbid someone has to pay for a CD. That's retarded right? Actually paying for something. Idiots.

And about the whole shitty albums thing. Your telling me that if someone handed you lets say Load or ReLoad, and you had NO idea it was Metallica. That you would honestly say it was shitty? No, you wouldn't. Because they're good records. They're soulful, the talent of the band is definetly noticeable. Metallica have progressed from record... to record. You can't say that two Metallica albums sound the same. Load and ReLoad are Kirks babys... you can definetly feel the bluesy /country feel in those records. Because that's what he was playing at the time. Ride The Lightning is still Metallica trying to break free of the thrash genre. Master Of Puppets really shows Cliff's classical background. And ...And Justice For All just shows how much Lars, James, and Kirk learned from Cliff. They've experimented a little, and sometimes alot in EVERY studio release. Not counting S&M or garage days or anything like that. Their progression is undeniable. St.Anger was mediocre compared to their earlier works. But if you watch Some Kind Of Monster... and you pay attention to the turmoil within the band, kids, everything like that. You still might not like St.Anger... but you'll appreciate what they were trying to do more. St.Anger was back to their roots whether you really like it or not. It was fast, it was moody, agressive. It had some serious punch. You can't be around as long as Metallica without reinventing yourself. I think this next album is going to really blow people away... and I think as well this is going to be their last record. They have alot to prove still... I can't wait.

i love you...

+1 Ive been saying this for 4 years. Im glad other people see it the way it is, instead of jumping on the bandwagon.

that guy was 100% right

this is just a fake story, metallica isnt sueing anyone, if you look on metallica official website it mentiones that they are going to be on thr rock band game and guitar hero 3 so why the hell would they sue em if it was announced on their website that metallica would be on those games, it doesnt make any sense, its just a load of bulls**t that QJ net has made up, if i was metallica i would sue them for making false allegations.

If I was Metallica, I'd break up, and make sure I never made another trash CD that alienates fans, and further destroys my image.

what image is that, you probably listen to bullet for my valentine or something gay like that, dont you think your image is already destroyed enough??

ironwolg :
i really doubt this is true, why would MetallicA agree to let these companies use their songs then turn around and sue them? do you honestly think any judge in his right mind would take that case? and as for napster, think about it, if you were in their place you would have done it too. that's their money that they worked hard for. so back off of em, it's not doing anybody any good to constantly bash MetallicA for it

wow.
cant believe that they would go humiliate themselves... if this story is true.
Metallica, hope you know this makes you look very very selfish and greedy, and makes the fans probably back away from buying the new album coming out soon, because the way it sounds like, you werent making the album for fun, but for more money. very sad you guys.
but remember i only say this if the article is speaking the truth.

^I can't believe so many people do believe it! I mean, for a start Metallica don't have a song called 'a' and the news that One will be on Guitar Hero 3 is on metallica.com! Seriously, I bet if there was a news article saying that Metallica were sueing the family of a man who died after being trapped under ice people would believe it.

How ridiculous, Metallica are and always will be my favourite band, but sometimes I just despair... Why would the boys try to sue a company for selling their music when they AGREED FOR IT TO BE ON THE GAME. The official announcement is on metallica.com saying "One" will be on guitar hero 3. You are all stupid if you believe this tripe.
