Metallica's Ulrich Downplays 'Death Magnetic' Leak

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has commented on the premature release of the band's new album, "Death Magnetic", via a French record store. A shop in Paris reportedly sold a number of copies of the CD this morning well ahead of its official September 12 worldwide release date — with illegal "Death Magnetic" MP3 files making their way online by this afternoon.

During a guest appearance earlier today on "The Woody Show" on the San Francisco, California radio station Live 105 (Kits 105.3 FM), Ulrich stated about the French leak, "Listen, we're ten days from release. I mean, from here, we're golden. If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy."

I got it yesterday evening. It's MINDBLOWING. I swear, this album is up there with Master, Ride, and Justice.

The singles were a bad choice or something because wow the other 7 tracks are frickin' SWEET. All of them are good!!!

I must say folks metallica is back with this album. And can we give Lars some slack for straight up telling people he doesn't care that the album leaked??? After all the napster nonsense. The whole band had to have known that it was going to happen.

I downloaded it but deleted all but 4 songs until it's release. The three they gave us and Unforgiven 3...which I will say it takes a few listens to grow on ya.

I think the fly-on-the-wall footage has helped downplay leaks of new songs, probably why Lars isn't that mad about it. I'm willing to bet that had there been NO fly-on-the-wall footage released, people would've tried a LOT harder to get their hands on illegal copies of the songs.

I think it will be pretty good =D Only song that I just couldn't get into was The Day That Never Comes. Hetfield just ruined it for me, the vocals didn't have that deep sound, and it could've been any band.

Haha true, true. I must say that The Judas Kiss, All Nightmare Long, and That was Just Your Life, are amazing. But all the songs bear more than one listen, there is just so much in them. I think that months from now I will still find something new in one of them. Indeed the "missing link" between Justice and Black AMAZING!

WOW This is the best album they have done since "...And Justice For All".... My least favorite tracks are probably "Broken Beat and Scarred" and "Unforgiven 3" and those songs are aweseome!!! "All Nightmare Long" is my fave, or maybe "Suicide and Redemption", or maybe "The Judas Kiss" or maybe "End of The Line"..... Fuck, every track is good.....this could be better than "Kill Em All" (although i'm just a fanboy and extremely excited)... Album of the year... destroys "United Abominations"....

Just an opinion man, I just think UA had a lot of filler on it, some really good songs but half the album was filler... I dont see any filler on this album, every track was at least good, and I think in the future, This album will be grouped together with KIA, RTL, MOP, and AJFO as one of Metallica's best albums.....just an opinion, feel free to shit all over it

I ordered the Death in a coffin back in July anyway. So there was no question of me not buying the album. I may or may not download the leak. But I think I should be able to manage to hang out for 9 more days. I have high hopes for this album, and from the comments here... it is going be very very sweet

They played the entire album on my local rock station last night...in my opinion it kicks ass metallica is back. Some people called in and said they didnt like it, but those are the people who are still living in the 80's. Believe me you will like it if you like metallica. the beginning is similar to the first one. not in the musical sense, but they're using another instrument for the intro. in the first one they used a classical guitar and in this one they use a piano which i assume James will play. if not they'll probably use a recording like they do for battery and blackened
