Mick Jagger Backs War Zone Single

artist: mick jagger date: 09/17/2007 category: general music news
Mick Jagger Backs War Zone Single

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is one of the artists who have given financial backing to the first single to be recorded in an active war-zone.

Mark Knoffler has also given his support to the single, ‘Living Darfur,’ which has been recorded by UK hip-hop act, Mattafix.

It’s hoped that the single, and its accompanying video – which was shot in a refugee campson the Darfur border – will raise awareness to the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Marlon, one half of the hip-hop duo, told the BBC: "These people are part of the largest concentration of human suffering in the world. But an important point that comes through in the visuals is that they are extremely resourceful, and the positivity despite what they have been through is unbelievable."

The group also hope that the single will educate more people as to where the country is located, as well as hightlighting the depth of its inhabitant’s problems.

Conflict in Darfur has escalated since 2003 – despite attempts to send humanitarian assistance to the region.
