This is terrible, to think that you can spend your life campaigning against something like the BNP and they can turn around and make money out of you.

Clearly Nick Griffin isn't writing anything relevant or worthy of the British publics attention, so he has to pull somthing like this to get funding.

the last thing we need is these racist, facist scum getting MEP seats, and it appalls me that their is nothing these artists can do about this. If i didnt read this, I would assume they supported the BNP, and that would make me never listen to their music again, i hate the BNP so much

It seems rather sneaky to make money from someone else's work in this way in the first place, regardless of the political party (even worse that it's the BNP). At least they aren't selling BNP-themed sweets and chocolates to kids to raise money.

Firstly, I completely disagree with the BNP, and don't want to see them elected,

But... musicians have to understand that when they sign their rights away, that's what they do. They can't decide that they're only going to let "nice" people sell their stuff. The whole point of making a living as a musician is that people make money out of your work (including the musician themselves) - the record company, shops etc. Do they want to vet them all to make sure that they agree with their political beliefs?

This is the system where bands like Pink Floyd have made an absolute fortune and can afford to live on their large estates in Surrey. Don't start complaining about it now!

If they are using the songs legally (via license) nothing the artists can do. They should get paid their fees accordingly, artist and songwriting royalties.
Excellent points Master of Puppies.

Stop the BNP!
Usually I have voter apathy - but this time it's all our moral obligation to ensure they do not get MEP seats!
It is scary how popular they are getting from prying on the fears of people hit hard by the economic slump - and using it to push their own fascist agendas (which the nazis did - I add).
And the fact they have now set up the Young British Nationalist Party (YBNP) which teaches kids how to shoot guns and white english history and supremacy is terrifying.

I'll definately be voting against them and ukip on the 4th. they wouldn't win anyway, but the less of a chance they have, the better. if i were a famous musician i'd be disgusted for them to use my songs in this way.

does anyone know which pink floyd song they used? i recon waiting for the worms or another wall one.

They tried to use "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" on an advert before. You would think that they would at least check the meaning of songs before using them to promote racism and bigotry.

Although I hate the BNP and all its racist ilk, you have to find it amusing that they are using songs with lines such as, "So if I can shoot rabbits, Then I can shoot fascists."

I think that you are missing the entire point of the argument. It's not about money or royalties or even someone using their songs without permission. It's about a political party with a strongly controversial stance and beliefs using their songs in their campaign, which people could interpret as the band having the same beliefs.

If they took a statement that someone made in print or in an interview and used it without their permission to further their agenda, that could be considered slander and would be illegal. Why should this be any different.

When it comes to beliefs and political standing, the artists permission should ALWAYS be required. The fact that it isn't is disgusting.

This is why politics and music shouldn't mix. The greedy politicians want to be associated with "hip" and "cool" bands so they can sucker dumb fans to vote for them. I've seen this happen in the States too and it gets old really quick.

Dave would get pretty pissed if he burned his tongue on his coffee.By pissed I mean godzilla pissed. And by burned I mean it was slightly hot and barely noticable.
