New Nirvana Book Due January 2009

artist: nirvana date: 11/07/2008 category: general music news
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Legendary grunge pioneers Nirvana will see a retrospective book of interviews with the band and articles about the band compiled from 1988 through 1992.

The book will be titled, unsurprisingly, "The Nirvana Reader: 1988 - 1992" and will see the light of day through Rock Reader Books.

The compiler and editor responsible for the book is John D. Luersson. Says Luersson:

"There have been way too many Nirvana books. So what gives me the right to put The Nirvana Reader together? Well, for one thing, I'm tired of the conjecture. I'm sick of the conspiracy theories, and I really just wanted to go back to the start and read about the band as they evolved during the first four years."

The book will be available on January 5, 2009.

Thanks for the info to Punknews.org.

ZThat book might as well have been written by Courtney herself she was looking over cross' shoulder the entire time that book was written!!!! its horrible!!!!! Everette True's BOOK IS THE BEST ONE!!!! TRUST ME IVE READ THEM ALL!!!!! YOU WILL HAVE FACTS IN THERE THAT NEITHER CROSS OR AZZERAD NEVER HAD IN THEIRS. EVERETT TRUE WAS THE KID FROM ALMOST FAMOUS BUT IN REAL LIFE AND WITH NIRVANA!!!!

DONT READ HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN ITS A COURTNEY LOVE SCAM!!!!

Now this is a shame since Kurt even though he wasnt the best guitarist he did have his own sound something that many cant say for themselves. ex. Slash(angus young rip off) and Zakk Wylde( Randy Rhoads). Now no one on the face of the earth sounded like kurt. They couldnt replicate his bigmuff guitar riffs or his solos. He isnt remembered for playing guitar anyway. his lyrics, voice, and melody is where kurt falls into a legend category. There hasnt been writing like that since the day he died. You could say he was a shitty guitarist, a junkie, or that hes a pussy for killing himself, but one thing you cannnot deny is that he was a brilliant writer. By the way is you really want guitar songs that prove hes decent: sappy,in bloom, come as you are, serve the servants, etc.

kurt cobain was considered one of the best guitarists becaus of his INFLUENCE. grunge was a huge musical movement and he was responsible for bringing it to the mainstream[NOT inventing it, just bring it to the public] and for its end to popularity. sure buckethead can shred like a motherf**king god, but has he done anything like that to the world of music?

LMAO nice one

This book won't be any better than any of the rest, give it up he was in a band and is now dead. If Kurt knew the fame and money that was made because of his death he probably wouldn't have done it purely on principle. It was about the music so if you like it then buy that, not the book.

Agreed. Ya wanna know what's the reason? Because nowadays cool people label Nirvana as "simplistic and mindless" when just a few years ago, "simplistic and mindless" angst was all the craze. I hate people who jump the bandwagon.

I love Nirvana no matter how many books people do to rip them off. Nirvana is no longer around so they're not the ones who are selling out.

That may be true, but the Beatles wrote rock history before Nirvana. Plus Kurt Cobain loved the Beatles, they're still and always will be the best rock band ever!
As for the book....im pretty interested to check it out. It seems there aren't a lot of interviews with the band. The other great Nirvana book was the biography of Kurt..."Heavier Than Heaven"

this dude wrote a book on Weezer called "Rivers Edge" that was pretty in depth if you didn't know too much about the history of that band, so if he did the same amount of research for this book, it ought to be pretty good.

that said, the stuff in the weezer book was mostly stuff any hardcore fan would already know, but a good read for a casual fan.

WTF anyone that thinks courtney had killed Kurt are losers. they fail to see that he was a depressed loser that happened to write alot of good songs. much respect to him but killing yourself? he was and will always be a ****ing loser who happened to make good songs. everyone get over yourselfs!

Heavier Than Heaven was basically the Courtney Love Show. Dave Grohl should write a book about Kurt.

not be the best guitar player ever but it would be hard to find someone who could write as many catchy riffs and songs as he did.

Noel Gallagher? John Lennon? Jimmy Page? To name but a few.

Yeah but more people would regonzie a nirvana song then any of their songs... plus John Lennon sucked imo... Page was ok and the first guy I don't know who he is.

But to the point, there shouldn't be anymore books... I think

To be honest he's probably a better guitarist then you'll ever be. He was to a point inovative in his style. Sure he used a bunch of power chords, but come on listen to a lot of good song, the catchy part of song is the rhthym and cobain had a good since of rhthem, plus he used very unorthadox patterns

There are those who don't understand the genius of kurts simple is more methods...these people have their head to far up their own asses to realise good music when they hear it.
Was he an unbeleivable guitar player? No. Would the songs he wrote have been better with a more accomplished guitar player? No ****ing way. Theres more to writing a song and connecting to an audience than a flurry of guitar notes. Its actually quite the reverse.

For God's sakes, i wish that everyone would get over Nirvana. Not a great band by any means. Ok guitar work, horrible vocals. Like really horrible. They're gone. We need no more books. And why the hell is this front page news on UG? ugh

Courtney love must be running out of drug money. Why can't they just leave them be? Hell, it defies the whole point of what Nirvana stood for to keep making money off of their name.

I was under the impression that Courtney Love was dead. Didn't she die 1-2 years ago due to drug overdose?

truest thing ever.
****en dragon force and alike bands who feel the need to do 500 mph solos. Totally unnecessary.
Spit out something true, with some heart, and allow passion to stream throught your guitar and out your amp. Thats real music. Music isnt about being the best, its about being the truest and most passsionate. And Nirvana followed those guidelines.

As for the book, im lookin forward to it.
