The long legal road for Chad Kroeger has dead-ended in court.
The Nickelback frontman was sentenced today in his native Canada to a one-year driving suspension and a $590 fine stemming from a two-year-old drunken-driving arrest.
Kroeger, 33, was behind the wheel of his Lamborghini on June 22, 2006, when police in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey, British Columbia, pulled him over at about 2 a.m. for speeding. Officers said they detected alcohol and administered a Breathalyzer test, which registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.14, almost twice the legal limit.
His lawyer had previously tried to throw out the test results due to an illegal search and seizure by police, but the judge nixed the motion.
The rocker, born Chad Robert Turton, told reporters after the hearing that he doesn't endorse drinking and driving, though he noted, "Everyone makes mistakes."
He plans to appeal...presuming he can get a ride to the courthouse.
Thanks for the info to Yahoo! News.

: hmmm..... Stupid, really, Kroeger can't afford anymore bad publicity..... Almost as bad as Scott Stapp, though what Stapp did was completely different POSTED: 05/02/2008 - 10:47 am / quote |

: Scott Stapp is a dick.
That point aside -
I love nickelback and Chad's a bad ass singer, but a DUI is stupid, and he was obviously drunk, so why bother appealing? Accept what you did and pay for it, then get on with your life.POSTED: 05/02/2008 - 11:06 am / quote |

: Well, to be honest, twice over the limit is like two pints of larger. Some people can take drink better than others. He may have been in full control of the vehicle but the law is the law. He has the money to appeal for it so why not?
I loved Nickelback for what they were, not as the "sellout Rockstars".POSTED: 05/02/2008 - 11:53 am / quote |

: He was drink driving.
Let's see how many people I get going on about how to say properly.
But on a more serious note...
I have absolutely no respect for anyone who does such a thing and he deserves anything coming to him...POSTED: 05/02/2008 - 12:23 pm / quote |

: JUSTICE IS SERVED!
But the real charge should be the fact that he's damaged every single radio in the world at least 10 times.POSTED: 05/02/2008 - 01:12 pm / quote |

: As an avid Nickelback fan, i'm in agreement with nearly everyone. Stupid comments aside (about him being locked up for crimes against the ears) I'm glad the judicial system found him guilty of the crime, however the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
Having heard many unpleasant stories over the years from victims of Drink Driving, I think a higher fine would have been more appropriate and a longer ban from Driving.
I stress at this point that is merely my moral opinion, I know someone who was caught being over the limit. He was followed home for nearly 20 miles and as he arrived home was pulled over by the car following him, they breathalized him and it indicated safe, only as the device was moved to be put away did it indicate that my friend was over the limit.
Was he over the limit, I believe so. The question remains though, technology fails us on so many occasions could this be one of them, was it in the case of my friend? Who knows? Who Cares?
This site's about Music and as such should discuss Music issues, whether an album is good or bad, the Guitar work is as excellent as it should be.
In the case of Nickelback, this has been the case on ALL of their Albums from Curb to "...Reasons" So he drove whilst under the influence - Ozzy beat the crap out of his wife until she was in a hell of a state, nobody thinks that Ozzy is rubbish Musically because of it.
The MORAL of this comment is this, does it really matter what our favourite Artists do in their own time? as long as they play well on tour and write decent music (If you don't like them, then why would you even read about them or comment on them?) WHO CARES!POSTED: 05/09/2008 - 04:42 am / quote |
