Nine Inch Nails Tap Lostprophets Drummer

Nine Inch Nails have tapped Lostprophets' Ilan Rubin to handle the drum duties for the group on the road beginning in early 2009. Drummer Josh Freese will exit NIN's current lineup at the end of its current North American tour.

Writing on the Nine Inch Nails web site, the group's mainman Trent Reznor said regarding the band's latest addition, "I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds [festivals in the UK] a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away — the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year."

Freese has played with Nine Inch Nails for the last three years, joining the lineup in late 2005.

Ilan Rubin, 20, began playing drums at the age of 8, when he discovered his father's 1968 Silver Sparkle Ludwig drum kit set up in the garage. He has reportedly taken lessons from Blink-182's Travis Barker and David Uosikkinen, drummer of famed '80s band The Hooters. He is also an accomplished guitarist and classical pianist.

Finck and Slash are nothing alike at all. Just because someone plays an LP doesnt mean they're pretending to be Slash

I've seen Josh Freese with NIN and A Perfect Circle and he kicks ass. I don't know a whole lot about Ilan Rubin, if he's half as goog as Freese he'll still rock

yeah, it's a difficult task to pick up the stick after The Human Drum Machine... Well, Trent usually picks decent guys for his band, I'm sure he'll kick ass.

He's a great choice to follow Josh Freese. He's probably the only guy who can do it; but, what this site needs to concentrate on is his guitar playing. He's releasing a solo record where he plays all the instruments. He's a phenomenal guitar player, as well.

that band has become a sinking ship from its previous styles.
josh freese is pretty amazing though

and to the guy suggesting APC reunion,
freese played drums with Ashes Divide
so probably no reunion

as far as i've heard, lostprophets have just ditched their album's worth of material, and have started the writing process again.
As for Ilan joining NIN, not an abvious choice, but he's up there with freese, i'd say if you luck up his stuff

I saw on a site about a month ago that said he and his fiance were having a kid, and it's due in Janurary, so thats my guess...

I really liked Josh on the drums, i saw NIN twice this year Hopfully Ilan will live up to expectations...

I heard Reznor hired him on the spot, so he must have been impressed. I'm sure he doesn't make those decisions on a whim. Also, the prophets posted a vid blog on myspace, saying that Rubin would be tracking drums for the next album this past weekend, so that material is written and is being recorded.
