As Gwen Stefani traverses the globe on her Sweet Escape tour, her bandmates in No Doubt have been writing new music and waiting for their singer to return home and reunite the group. Guitarist Tom Dumont told MTV News, "[Bassist] Tony [Kanal], [drummer] Adrian [Young] and I have been busy preparing material for the album since this time last year. So we have a lot of instrumentals looking for words."
Dumont added that the guys could meet up with Stefani if she has any spare time during her tour. "Gwen has a busy world tour all year, so obviously most of our writing this year would happen either separately or during a few off days here and there." He also said not to expect a new No Doubt record until late 2008 at the earliest.
Drummer Young also spoke to Rolling Stone, saying, "When she gets done with the tour we’ll all be there to do it. We’ve probably got four albums worth of ideas demoed.” He said the new songs are “unlike anything else we ever made – they’re all over the place stylistically."
No Doubt have been on hiatus since the summer of 2004, when Stefani jumped into her solo career. "This break has been good for everyone," Dumont said to MTV. "We had been together as a band nonstop for so long that it was healthy for us to all stand on our own two feet, so to speak. In the past four years, I bought a house, got married and made a baby, so [I] pretty much grew up and returned to normal life outside of the rock stardom which dominated my 20's."

: I reckon the new record will have too much of a r&b feel to it. They were an awesome ska rock band in their heyday, then they turned into something not dissimilar to Gwen's solo work. I'll check it out thoughPOSTED: 06/09/2007 - 07:50 am / quote |

: I hope they remain as good as they were before... I hate most of Gwen's solo material, so I hope she doesn't want to stick to that for No Doubt as well.POSTED: 06/09/2007 - 08:22 am / quote |

: My question is why couldn't Gwen's solo work be done in No Doubt? There doesn't seem to be too much difference to me, with the exception of her music being more loop-oriented. I get the feeling if her songs would have been done by No Doubt they would have been a lot better.POSTED: 06/09/2007 - 01:45 pm / quote |

: For those who suggested Gwen be replaced you must have not listened to much of No Doubt. She is THE biggest reason they've had any success. It was her unfiltered, personal, deep filled lyrics and emotion in her vocals and amazing energy on stage that allowed No Doubt to be as good as they were and even be a known name. For that person who said her solo work was similiar to No Doubt that's false. The only No Doubt album out of the 5 that could come close would be Rock Steady. Gwen's solo stuff is mostly eletronic, dancey hip hop. Most of No Doubt's albums are a mix of Rock, Ska, New Wave and Punk. And I'm positive their next album WILL BE more "rock" and hardley any R&B if any at all. The reason they've been successful is the fact that they're UNpredictable and RE-Invent themselves with each album unlike most groups who repeat themselves over and over and pigeon hole themselvs.POSTED: 06/09/2007 - 08:38 pm / quote |

: i like nd and gwen and i respect gwen for her professionalism and am glad to see she hasnt become some washed up drug/alcohol addicted star who basically lives their lives at rehab. she also hasnt had any work done to her face and is a fantastic mother to kingston. i think gwens solo stuff is really good (although i like nd better) and she is just a natural born entertainer. even if you dont like gwens solo stuff i think you should respect her as the fantastic person and role model she is because in my opinion one of the classiest celebrities and she has built an empire by not posing nude or getting her face on the front of some magazine trashed getting out of some club at 4 in the morning, she has done this just by being who she is and developing a style of her own which many artists (fergie, nelly furtado) have tried and failed at ripping off.
anyway thats my two cents

In that case, The Rolling Stones should get rid of Mick Jagger for his pitiful attempt at a solo career. Elitist fanboyism is retarded.

eh, i dont know about that. i have more of the feeling that the band/gwen see her solo work as something seperate from ND, and that the type of music she released as a solo artist wouldnt be carried over into ND... atleast i hope thats the case, ive always been a fan of ND, but i never really got into Gwen's solo stuffPOSTED: 06/09/2007 - 10:09 pm / quote |

I'm not a fan-boy I don't even like them... I just think she needs to be punished for that B.A.N.A.N.A song, it was a crime against humanity.POSTED: 06/10/2007 - 04:36 am / quote |

: I have to agree with those who are skeptical of Gwen being able to fully go back to her no doubt roots. She is in a different place now personally and professionally and this might cause conflict as her lyrics might not work with the music and what the other band members would like to see. She has will likely or already has lost most if not all her credibility with her former no doubt fans.POSTED: 06/10/2007 - 08:41 am / quote |

: i am hoping that since the band has written the material without gwen that it wont have any of her RnB influences in it. a lot of her solo stuff is very poorly written IMO, but a lot of No Doubt's early stuff was pretty good so hopefully they can go back to that or something similar.POSTED: 06/10/2007 - 09:17 pm / quote |
