No System Of A Down Reunion |

Former System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian has warned optimistic fans the band will never reunite.
The group took a break in 2006 to focus on other projects - frontman Serj Tankian went on to pursue a solo career and Malakian formed a new band with his former drummer John Dolmayan. And Malakian insists his new band Scars On Broadway is the only project he will be working on in the foreseeable future.
He tells MTV.com, "There's no talk of System doing anything. We're not planning on doing anything. If anyone's holding their breath for a System record, they're going to turn blue and pass out. It's a long ways away, if it ever even happens. We don't even talk about it - none of us. This (Scars on Broadway) is my band right now."
Thanks for the info to Contactmusic.com.

: So much to say here...First of all, I want to defend Daron. He seems a bit obtuse, and maybe a little self centered, but you have to see things his way. Daron wrote almost everything in SOAD. Melody, harmony, a lot of the lyrics, guitars/bass/any other non-drum instrument ever involved, was all his doing. But he very rarely got credit for it. Serj was/is credited as the soul of SOAD. However, any person with some musical tact will notice that Serj's solo career sounds like SOAD, but is nowhere near it as far as instruments go. Serj will always sound like SOAD because his voice is so prolific. But if people stop and listen to the actual music, they would realize how bland and generic the instruments sound. Daron wrote all of that stuff, all the weird, offbeat, dark sounding riffs and tunes.
To me, Serj will never be up to par, but to the public, who is 90% about the singer anyways, I guess they wont have any problem forgetting about the other 3 members of SOAD. Daron knows this and he's a little bitter because he forged so much of SOAD's sound.
Second....How can you say Daron is doing a bad job? He hasn't finished anything yet. You haven't heard any Scars on Broadway. No one has as far as I know. You can't judge his music yet....don't be foolish.
Third...not having much to do with Daron...SOAD did not leave the world on a "high note". SOAD's first 3 albums were all spectacular....and faced a big decline with Hypnotize/Mesmerize. It's a shame too, because people are going to remember "Lonely Day" when they should be remembering "Sugar" and "Aerials". All of their title album stuff never got the recognition it deserved, and I bet if the placement of the albums were reversed, SOAD would be extremely popular today, and might even still be together. Serj Tankian can't sing anymore, Daron Malakian can't sing period, Shavo hates bass and John Dolmayan is way too good for System of a Down. I still love the bands music, it was an inspiration for me. His ego got in the way of their last two albums and now it is forcing the break-up of the band. | Yeah probably, although something is nagging at the back of my head saying that, knowing Daron, it likely means a reunion is imminent. Have you heard Daron at interviews? He never takes them seriously/gives straight answers.
And to the flamers, how would you like it if one of your favourite bands split up permanently? Grow up and appreciate music, SOAD may musically just be powerchords but they use them well and Serj/Daron have great voices for the style. Now gtfo if you still hate SOAD.POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 03:15 pm / quote |

: If you read the liner notes for all of their albums, Serj wrote most of "System of a Down", about half of "Toxicity", and just one song each off of "Hypnotize/Mezmerize".
So to me, it seems that Daron was just writing himself more and more into the spotlight of the band.
Maybe I'm being unfair, but a lot of the turmoil with the hiatus seemed to stem from Daron, not from Serj.POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 03:17 pm / quote |

So much to say here...First of all, I want to defend Daron.
Serj's solo stuff is fine, but Daron's work in SOAD is way beyond Elect the Dead, imo.
Not anything wrong with Serj though, he's got a good voice.POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 04:18 pm / quote |

Went to go see Serj at a private showing by invite only last week in NYC, probably about 300 people there in a smaller venue, very cool show, and it was nice sitting down with him and the musicians afterwards and talking about the direction he's going with his music. Its a blessing in a way for the musical world that their not together. They made the right decision, they made a huge mark on modern music, and are one of few bands that have come out recently that are not like every other band out there. They did their thing, did it well, and now all the rest of them are off doing there own thing, and each doing theirs just as well. It is an important step in the evolution of music, and definitely refreshing.POSTED: 02/22/2008 - 08:22 pm / quote |
