Ozzy Looking For A Guitarist

The following message has been posted on the official Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath frontman's website: "Ozzy is looking for a guitar player to write his next studio album with. This is your big chance! All interested parties should send a package showcasing their guitar skills to:

Osbourne's last release as a solo artist was the "Prince Of Darkness" box set, which was recently certified gold by the RIAA for shipments in excess of 125,000 copies (multi-disc albums get counted once for each disc within the album; regular gold certification occurs at 500,000 copies).

Ozzy announced on Friday (August 12) that this year's Ozzfest would be his last as a headliner (read story on UG). In a statement, the singer revealed that Ozzfest would return in 2006, but Osbourne would limit his performances to only a few selected cities.

All of those people are phenominal guitarist(although i'm not a big hendrix fan) and have(had, for the dead ones) more skill in one fretting finger than you have in that entire meatsack you call a body and i can guarentee it. he said he's not headlining OZZFEST anymore, but that doesn't mean he won't headline actual tours. festivals (especially summer) are usually more hectic than any headlining tour. all of you will still have a chance to see sabbath or ozzman live, but it just won't be on ozzfest.

I read an interview with zakk or an article on him or something that said he'd been playing guitar for a long time, but took it seriously at 16, and got the job with ozzy at 21. And he has a degree from some college in classical guitar, so he couldn't have only been playing one year. Besides, do you know any first year guitar students who can a) write that quality of music, b) solo that well, improv or otherwise, or c) hold up that well on tour? Sounds like my fantasies! I'm curious where you heard that.

In all honesty I just sent my solo demo to this address... I shipped it up in a nice yellow envelope with songs such as Crazy Train (duh) and other good songs to show my playing abilities. I honestly doubt he'll pick anyone outside of the music industry. He'll probably do like Metallica did, hold bass auditions for the public and then totally get their hopes up and pick someone who they were familiar with...

well obviously you havent seen john 5 playing with rob zombie at ozzfest this summer or listened to any of his solo works. john 5 can shred like no other - and i am quite sure that he is better than you. so until you become famous and proove that you are more talented than he, you can shut up.

I don't think so, man. I read an interview with zakk or an article on him or something that said he'd been playing guitar for a long time, but took it seriously at 16, and got the job with ozzy at 21. And he has a degree from some college in classical guitar, so he couldn't have only been playing one year. Besides, do you know any first year guitar students who can a) write that quality of music, b) solo that well, improv or otherwise, or c) hold up that well on tour? Sounds like my fantasies! I'm curious where you heard that.

And everyone's saying that zakk's too busy with BLS to play with ozzy. That may be true, but from what I've seen they aren't all that much busier than they ever were! They usually do ozzfest, I believe, and I read an interview with ozzy in which he said something like "Zakk's family and my family are like family, and he'd drop everything to come and play on another ozzy album", then he says stuff I don't remember but makes it sound like he WANTS someone new, so I don't know.

what ever article you read was f***ed up lol. zakk started playing when he was 14 and got the gig with ozzy at 19 - he never went to any college to get a degree of any sort. he was working as quality control manager of a miller brewing factory at the time he got the gig with the ozzman!

No offence intended here and with all due respect has Paul Gilbert ever written one tough riff that Ozzy could sing over with some passion? I mean a riff that makes you clench your fist and grit your teeth and break stuff, really???? Paul in Mr Big kicks ass but not with Ozzy... Don't forget guys Ozzy is a riff driven singer meaning all that 20 notes a second **** is meaningless to him to start with because he can't write words over it. Who ever gets the gig (and that South Aussie dude is just a rumour) will have to be able to write serious ground breaking riffs. He will be an unknown because lets face it, Ozzy is banking on the one thing he is known for - Finding an unknown guitarist who will change the face of the guitar world once again.
