Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney’s first ever guitar has sold for a staggering £330,000 in auction.
American collector Craig Jackson paid the vast sum for the world renowned musician’s acoustic at London’s Abbey Road Studios yesterday evening.
Jackson explained, “This is such an important piece of rock history, and I am an extremely happy man tonight. Without this guitar The Beatles may never have existed, and it is a fantastic acquisition."
The guitar - which was expected to raise £100,000 - actually belonged to his childhood friend
Ian James, who was raising money for his retirement, but McCartney borrowed it to learn chords on, and provided a letter confirming the instrument was authentic.
