Peter Doherty has apologized for singing the opening lines of the Nazi national anthem while at a gig last Saturday in Germany.
The Babyshambles frontman was escorted off stage at a festival in Munich after he sang a few lines of The Song For Germany - he verse Adolf Hitler used when the Nazis were in power.
In a statement,
Doherty's spokeswoman stated he "
wanted to celebrate his appearance in Munich by assimilating and integrating with the crowd, something he tries do wherever he goes." She continued declaring
Doherty was unaware of the controversy and he apologizes if he has caused any offence.
"Peter himself is from Jewish descent and has fought against racism and fascism with numerous organisations including Love Music Hate Racism."
Although being on tour in Germany at the moment, Doherty and the rest of The Babyshambles are rumoured to be heading into the studio to work on nine demos for their third upcoming album.
