The tracks "Talk Dirty To Me", "I Wont Forget You", "Fallen Angel" and "Ride The Wind" have long been held in regard as staples of 1980s hair metal canon.
What’s more, they’ve also long been accredited to Bret Michaels, C.C DeVille and their fellow members of glam rock mainstays Poison.
As Hollywood Reporter claims, however, Michaels and co. might not have been entirely honest about the authorship of these tracks. What’s more, 80’s Hollywood band Kid Rocker are so sure that Poison ripped off their music, that they’re willing to take them to court over it.
The plaintiffs in the case
Billy McCarthy and
James Stonich maintain that the four Poison tracks in question steal elements from the tracks "
Hit And Run" and "
Wham Bam Slammin' Romance", which the group had penned in the early eighties.
Such similarities might have proved purely coincidental, were it not for the fact that the band had auditioned Poison axe-man C.C DeVille in 1984, reportedly playing him completely formatted songs and lending him studio recorded master tapes in the process. Deville then reportedly brought the material to his subsequent band, Screamin' Mimis, after Kid Rocker’s disbanding, before going on to use the tracks on Poison’s debut album Look What The Cat Dragged In.
Kid Rocker’s claim is a bold one, and indeed one has to question why, if Poison did rip the off so unceremoniously, it has taken them so long to bring the matter to court. At the time of writing Michaels, DeVille et al. have yet to comment on the case.
Meanwhile, Poison have recently completed their summer tour with fellow Glam mainstays Motley Crue, as part of the band’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations.
