As one of the most influential punk groups of all time, the Sex Pistols have had a tremendous impact on the world of contemporary music. The band, who famously split in 1978, have temporarily reunited several times, but never wrote new material and never stayed together for long. This, however, could all change.
Johnny Rotten (or John Lydon), who served as the group’s primary vocalist for most of its career, has announced that he would be open to reforming the Sex Pistols, and not just for a short reunion. He told Stereogum.com that his work with the post-punk group
Public Image Ltd and the positive performances he’s experienced with them has made him want to reunite the Sex Pistols and even write new material.
“For me, there wouldn’t be a PiL if it weren’t for them lads in the Pistols, so I feel responsive to their needs,” Lydon said. “If they want me to go out on tour with them I’m happy to oblige… until three weeks later when I’m not. That’s how it is.”
He continued to say: “Because I’ve been able to get PiL back together – and because I’ve really been in a songwriting mode – can now look back on the Pistols and imagine writing with them too.”
If you enjoy the Sex Pistol’s music, this will definitely be something to hope for and look forward to. And maybe this time (unlike the previous five times) the group will actually stay together and get some new material recorded.
