Wow, they turned down $100,000 just to have the place rented so a shitty ass orchestra can practice. Things like that getting you thinking that maybe United States leaders really don't know what they are doing. And they said they also won't let them play because of noise complaints from nearby residents. Who the **** are these people they live next to a goddam concert hall. I'm going to fight random people on the street to calm down, God Bless America!!!

I hear that Radiohead's going to have orchestral arrangements in their new album... maybe they could like do a collaboration with the orchestra practicing there... >_>

speaking as a resident of the fine city of chicago, i have yet to hear of a show that wasn't a classical performance at that stage (but i could be wrong)... i'm guessing (and this is just my opinion) but the city spent millions of dollars designing this venue as one of the best outdoor classical stages (note the $500 million tag on the park...) and it really isn't designed for a show like radiohead, where half the fun is seeing them perform... hopefully they decided to play the house of blues instead, because i'd hate to miss that show!

Jesus christ, can't you guys have any respect for the orchestra? They're musicians too, I love radiohead but cmon, it's one gig. Grow up.

i agree, with ^, the orchestra has the right to play there. and radiohead can always just play another show. and its just chicago.... come to nyc and play in central park, now that a show!

United States leaders are at fault here....? Why? It's on the local Chicago governments back really. I'd rather Radiohead perform than the orchestra but the orchestra was there first.

I'm guessing legally the place can't just screw over the orchestra and let radiohead play, but why not just have a show on the 19th?

"because of noise complaints from a handful of nearby residents."

Its only for 2 days out of 365 can't they put up with it!?!?!

They should televise Radiohead fighting the orchestra to the death on live TV for entertainment.

Yeah, I hope Radiohead does Central Park this summer, that would kick ass.

And for all the closed minded idiots who post here - just because you don't like the music the orchestra might play, who really gives a shit? They might play Tommy. Or something else that's worth listening to. Rock isn't the only music people go to see.

If they're complaining about the noise of music, shouldn't they be complaining about orchastras as well? that's noise too, I tell you. And shouldn't they expect that, from choosing the location in where they reside? Duh. Nutters, them. Bloody chavs.

Added to that, If they are complaining about "the noise that is music" then classical music is music as well. it all ties in. but then again, I'm speaking gibberish.

I agree, make it painful too.

Just a couple things to say. First, people need to respect orchestras more; they make impressive music. I heard that Jonny Greenwood actually conducts the London Sinfonietta Orchestra. So saying orchestras suck is almost insulting Radiohead in the same way. (By the way-- Radiohead is one of my favorite bands.) Secondly, I love these people calling each other ignorant and especially saying to kill themselves. Hey maybe he's right, what if America did plan 9/11? Althought it's unlikely, it is possible. Sometimes the stupidest of people are really geniuses, they're just thinking way above us. So let's just all be a little more accepting of each other, it could be fun.

WTF? ^^ *Retard Alert*

anyway, yeah Radiohead, i dont really like them, why dont they just change the date of the show or just do A show? Its the park's orchestra, so technically they have priority. So like, yah my opinion is known.

Its unfortunate, but you definitely shouldnt blame the orchestra.

I was lucky enough to see the show in Hutchinson Field (part of Grant Park) that was mentioned in the article. It truly was a legendary show, not only the best Radiohead show I've seen but the best show I've seen ever.

I agree that the orchestra has priority, but I would like to see Radiohead try to work something out that would allow them to play there nonetheless. Perhaps a cash settlement would work. There's no doubt Radiohead will pull down an obscene amount of money playing at Grant Park, so that seems like a feasible option.

So far as "nearby residents" complaining about the noise, I really don't care. If you're rich enough to live in one of the apartments next to Grant Park then you can afford to soundproof your windows, go out of town for those days, or pay for a penis enlargement and go f*ck yourself.

Radiohead are geniuses, and city officials should do anything they can to get them to play a large venue.
