Wow, this is such a joke. "...too afraid to think out of their own isolated political fuzzy cloud..." That alone is ironic.

Nuclear power outdated? Nuclear power harming the environment? Get your head out of your ass you ignorant "rocker", and stick to music.

Well it's not like the environment is screaming for more nuclear power... But yeh, nuclear power today is far more harmless than the old ones that's being used right now...
But still, I think you should spend more money on developing alternatives to nuclear power..

AVIDFANOFSOUNDS :
There aren't really any alternatives to nuclear fission that produces the same amount of power and produces no greenhouse gases

Ugh I hate it when musicians get all political... Nuclear power is definitely not outdated, and it's safe and efficient as hell... Just stick to making awesome music

What's wrong with musicians being political? It's not like they don't make their beliefs pretty evident through their music. If someone feels passionate about something and know enough about the subject to not just be speaking out of their ass, they have a right to.

Why the **** does Thom Yorke think any gives two shit about what he says, especially in matters completely unrelated to the music business?

Nuclear power has come a long, long way since Chernobyl. With a fair number of coal based power stations going out of commission in the near future, the UK needs replacements, and nuclear power is the logical choice.

charles753df :
Nuclear power would solve some of our dependency issues to oil and coal and balance some resources out. Now all we need is electric cars and hydrogen powered homes. Thom is kinda dumb, I must say. I think his mind would explode if he were to be making calls that impacts an entire country let alone the world.

UnaLaguna :
If it wasn't for people complaining about things they didn't understand, we'd have already fully embraced nuclear fission plants and not have an energy crisis.

JohnnyNutman :
if it wasnt for the simpsons i dont think anyone under the age of 30 would have a problem with nuclear energy.

it's not perfect & it can be dangerous (but what isnt?), but like deliriumbassist said we've come along way in our development of the technology & right now there is no "green alternative" anywhere close to it.

Wait... what have they started doing recently that makes sh***ing out tons of extremely radioactive waste that will be highly dangerous for the next 10,000 years and also has to be carefully guarded so it doesn't get stolen by terrorists that makes nuclear power not an issue any more?

blueboy14 :
Nuclear power is a SAFE and RENEWABLE energy... ignorant people and especially ignorant douche rockers should do research on the truth about nuclear power before preaching about what they don't know.
To Thom Yorke: Get off of your pulpit and do research before you speak, i would personally prefer for you not to speak out at all

POSTED: 11/10/2009 - 11:10 pm / quote |
Unlucky :
Blueboy, while a little harsh I believe, is correct. Nuclear power IS the 'updated' energy resource of the future. Seriously, it's quite safe nowadays and people like Thom Yorke are mildly saddening that they'd rather rely on more crude and inefficient energy sources.

Renewable energy just does not work on a national scale Thom, I'm sorry. Not in it's current state at least.

everyone is a lot more up to date and open minded then I thought they would be. good to know

"Thom" Yorke should shut his mouth. Someone needs to give this guy an invervention. Take away his keyboards, samples, give him an acoustic guitar and 5 beatles albums, and tell him not to come back until he writes some real music again.

Radiohead haven't had a relevant, coherent album since Ok Computer.

watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Usg7-xbQOcM & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAq-siGEXgY - it kind of explains it (its from penn & teller bullshit). the second clip shows how hard it is to damage one the storage containers. they showed the storage facility in that episode as well, but i couldnt find the clip on youtube - it was pretty solid tho.

Checked.

For those considering nuclear power to be harmful for the environment (yes, I'm talking to you too, Thom Yorke), consider this. In order to keep a powerplant with 1,000 Megawatt electrical output running at 60% (which is sufficient for an American city of about 1 million people), one would need:
- 9,000 tonnes of coal per day
- 40,000 barrels of oil per day (a tanker a week)
- 3 kg of uranium per day. 3 kg.

As has been said, there are no other alternatives that can generate the same large amount of energy without producing greenhouse gases. Realistically, other "renewable" alternatives simply cannot cut it.

Checked.

^ Thanks for confirming. Don't get me wrong, I love Radiohead and I think Thom Yorke is a great musician. I just don't think he, or anyone for that matter, should make political statements about stuff they don't understand, especially well-known or influential people like him.
