Rare Sex Pistols Single Valued At $12,000

A “God Save the Queen” single by the Sex Pistols is the most valuable of all time, according to the U.K.’s Record Collector magazine. The reason the single, on A&M, is so valuable is that The Sex Pistols were dropped by their label before the record could be released. It’s estimated to be worth $12,000.

Record Collector magazine has listed the top 51 most valuable vinyl records. According to BBC News, Editor Ian McCann said: “There is something of an investment market in mint-condition copies of iconic albums. The problem is people love them and play them to death, making it increasingly rare to find them in mint condition.”

“Please Please Me” (on the Black and Gold label) comes second with a value of £4,700, while The Rolling Stones clock in at #5 with their eponymous debut album from 1964, which is valued at $1,500.

and i forgot to mention in number 4 that the band members were ****ing stupid. one of them even quoted "i dont even know the name of our prime minister". they also had really bad behavior which i guess makes their music "way better??". They were like rap "musicians" That only say the words "Nigger" and "Fuck" every 3 seconds.

The sex pistols are one of the most important bands ever. They are arguably the second most influential punk band only being beaten out by the Ramones. Also, who cares if they were manufactured? Elvis Presley was even more controlled by his manager than they were and you can't argue his importance to today's music.

There is no doubt that Steve Jones is one of the worst guitar players to ever make it on to a record. The guy was basically beginner level, but those songs were great and the ferocity of Lydon's delivery was like a declaration of war on a rock scene that was informed by wretched excess, bloated egos and a whole hell of a lot of phoniness, was running out of ideas and, during the later part of the 1970's, would be overshadowed by disco commercially because many of the great bands were simply done creatively. It was time to get back to basics and regroup for rock.

However, let's give some due to the Ramones, who were the model for a lot of the english punk bands. It was really them that made the "two great chords, ten great songs" ethos possible. Unfortunately, it also enabled a lot of really bad musicians to make records as the labels in the U.K. jumped on the punk trend and would ultimately degrade the value of being able to play well, even by rock standards. Rap would then exacerbate that state of affairs.

To me and everyone that gives Punk Rock a chance will know that every punk band sounds different: The Sex Pistols don't sound like the Dickies the Dickies don't sound like The Clash the Clash don't sound like The Damned. They used different equiptment, different techniques (especially when it came to guitar) they just don't sound anything alike.

Punk was never really THAT commercial, The Ramones, Sex Pistols & The Clash are pretty much the only commercial/well known 'punk' bands and even then they done what they wanted musically and never conformed to the norm (However The Ramones did try to be popular, thats the only exception), if you never noticed most experimental music came from Punk.

3. I Said LEGITIMATE metal bands, so i forgot Priest thats a fail on my part but Rainbow, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin (all good bands in their own right) were not Heavy Metal, they were Hard Rock.

4. Sid wasn't really a creative force in the Pistols, he was drafted in when Glen Matlock got kicked out. Sid was a friend of the band who had the 'punk' image but didn't know how to play an instrument (yes this was selling in a sense but this was after all the songs were written)

5. That ONE studio album was freakin' immense, it changed everything. The Band ceased to exist shortly after the Albums release, hence why there is no more albums by them DUH!, They just do a few Reuinion shows now and then for the fans. In other words there CAREER as the Sex Pistols didn't last long. They have all gone onto different progects since.

6. Complexity don't mean shit! Thats like saying Dragonforce are better than Black Sabbath because they play vastly more complex music. YOU FAIL

I've said it before to many a sex pistol hater: If you don't get why they were one of the greatest punk bands of all time, you simply don't get punk at all. If you think you do, you aren't listening to real punk. And if you know you hate punk, thats your opinion. But if you honestly think one genre of music is superior to another, and you think you can explain that to others through reason you are simply an idiot. Music is intangible, and nothing can be considered superior, especially not based on the arguement of complexity of the instrumental. Dragonforce has the fastest shredding of almost any band, but they are so far from the greatest band. Lots of people, in fact most people, like the ramones better than dragonforce.

The problem is, while music is subjective, punk musicians made it the entire point of the genre to play as badly, scrappily and half-arsedly as possible. There's a term for musicians who can't be arsed to learn how to play their instruments properly. It's called laziness.

If a carpenter built me a table, but neglected to make the legs all of the same length, left the wood unsanded and unpolished, and held it together with spit and shoelaces as opposed to nails and glue, I'd call it a pretty shit table. But then, that's baed on what I look for in a table, and would just be my opinion. However, if that carpenter then started spouting on about how "Yeah, it's closer to the spirit of the original wood, man. Like, there's none of this stupid woodworking shite messing with the truth of the table, unlike these other carpenters"... well, then I'd give him a slap round the face for being an insult to his fellow craftsmen.

Music is a craft, like any other skill in life. And while it mostly boils down to subjective interpretation, it is still enough of a craft to warrant skilled craftsmen. Judas Priest weren't really metal back then. There were a couple of metal tracks on Sad Wings of Destiny but most of Priest's '70s stuff wasn't metal.

Iron Maiden had yet to release an album in the '70s and even when they did, the first album wasn't so metally as they were post-NoTB.

Someone needs a reality check. You may not like the Pistols, but they changed music forever. Without the Pistols, you wouldn't have Guns n' Roses, Metallica, or Megadeth. Not to mention the countless other bands in the world that were influenced by them.
