Razorlight Say They're 'Better Than Arctic Monkeys'

Razorlight have claimed they are "better than Arctic Monkeys" as they gear up to finish their second album.

The band, who are currently putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2004's debut "Up All Night", have spoken exclusively to NME about their new record.

When asked whether the group feel like Arctic Monkeys are better than his band, singer Johnny Borrell replied: "What? Of course I fucking don't. I wouldn't say they're better than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, either. Or The Strokes, or even like The Libertines were for those five minutes when they were brilliant. But they deserve it because the door was open for them and they blew the hinges off."

Famous for his self-belief, Borrell has also revealed that he still feels like a genius, explaining: "When I said it, I certainly felt like more of a genius than the awful bands NME were championing... And a lot of the bands around now are pretty average. So, if you ask me if I feel like a genius compared to them, then yeah, I do."

He added: "I feel like a genius more than most people, that's for sure." For the full interview, pick up this week's NME.

I love Razorlight and I can't wait for their new album! However, as good as the Arctic Monkey are, they're so hyped up and overrated by the press. They're going to be the the next overrated fad again like Oasis were 10 years ago...and don't get me wrong, I love Oasis' old stuff, but the press hyped them up so much they ended up writing actrocious music (Be Here Now, SOTSOG) and eventualy became utter failures. I just hope this isn't going to be another rock n' roll swindle thing but still,...bring on the next Razorlight album!

This article, particularly the title, has put a completely wrong slant on Razorlight/Borrell. He said they were better than Arctic Monkeys, but never said they were crap. He said they deserve it. Now with the self-loving aside, they're still complimenting the A.M.
I think the title appears to be almost deliberately there to instigate controversy.
