RHCP: 'Stadium Arcadium' Leaked |

The new Red Hot Chili Peppers' album, Stadium Arcadium, a year and a half in the making, has been leaked on the internet. The day that word of this got to the Chili Peppers, Flea responded with the following statements:
"The thing that really bums me out is we worked so hard, and so thoughtfully, all of us, for so long to make this record sound as warm and full from top to bottom as was possible. We spent day and night for a year making sure every little sound was just right, that they were all put together in the most beautiful way we could. We did not leave a stone unturned in doing that work. I can not put in words how much this record, stadium arcadium, means to us, how sacred the sound of it is to us, and how many sleepless nights and hardworking days we all had thinking about how to make it be the best sounding thing we could. And now, for someone to take it and put it out there with this poor sound quality, it is a painful pill for us to swallow."
The double disc, 28 track record will officially be released in the U.S. on May 9th.

1. You cheat the artist/band (if you were in a famous rockband, how would you feel if people just download your stuff you have worked on for months?)

You tool. Music sharing (burning it onto a disc and giving it to your friend) is a great way for people to get into bands. Hell, it's been around since way before music downloading.
I'll admit, I downloaded the album about a week ago. I was contemplating buying it, but as it is a double CD, it will be more expensive, and I don't like absolutely everything by the Chili Peppers, so I won't blindly pay all that money for it. I was interested to hear it though, and now I'm quite sure I will be buying it on the release date.POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 04:45 pm / quote |

You wouldn't want someone to get one of your hotdogs without paying for it(same thing with music from a band). For the people who download to see if they are gonna buy it: You can't go to a store and just take something for free, see if it works, and if you like it, go back and buy it. : This is BS. I hate this so much. I can understand the point that you are stealing from the artists ect but I really don't feel bad about it. Infact, I will go so far as to say I think ALL MUSIC should be free. Every song, every album, every single should be free.
You can still play shows and make alot of money. I've gone to shows of bands I've never bought an album from and spend 40$. You can still sell your tshirts. I think the recognition, the oppourtunities, and the money you get from touring should be enough. Are you really an artist? Or are you just a *****?POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 05:38 pm / quote |

: Also my god. How much are you isolating your fans by saying stuff like this? How does that make you all feel that downloaded the record? Think about how many people probably did download it. YOU ARENT BAD PEOPLE YOU JUST WANT TO HEAR SOME MUSIC. Don't let the musicians, the record labels, or anyone try to guilt trip you for doing so.
It bugs teh crap out of me that some musicians don't know how to handle this. Remember when radiohead put the entire album of Kid A on their website? Guess what. Many people agree it was one of the best albums of all time and went on to sell millions!!
Music should be free. That's all I have to say.POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 05:41 pm / quote |

Has Many Issues
: I did download it.
RHCP is my favorite band, and I know a lot of people are saying they're being a "good fan" by not downloading it.
I had originally planned to not download it, but then I saw it there and there was no way I could've just said, "Oh, there it is, I could listen to it now...but I'll just wait a week or so".
I pretty much freaked out and had to listen to it right away.
I'll still definately buy the album.
The best musical albums are the ones that you don't understand at first, you listen to it and you have a general perspective, and it might not appeal to you at first. But eventually, it just hits you emotionally and you need to absorb it and take it in, and it becomes amazing to you.
Now with that being said, Stadium Arcadium is definately one of those albums for me, I do think it's better than Blood Sugar Sex Magik(my previous favorite), and it's definately my favorite album of all time.POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 05:51 pm / quote |

1. like it really matters, im sure the millions of sales they're still gonna get is more than a consolation for people downloading the album.
2. if you knew anything about downloading or the softwares used to download, you'll find that you can find out how good the quality of the songs/albums are. the album i downloaded sounds the exact same as the cd, and im not bullsh*ttin, your just trying to sound different, stop being ignorant.
3. we don't steal money, we get the songs, we aint "stealing" money off the chilli peppers or any band, we would be if we stole a cd from a store, get your facts right. if any they're losing a small fraction of what they'd get with the sales of albums.
4. you obviously dont understand how many people download music illegally or whatever and compare it to the amount of people who have been caught.
basically, stop making an argument over something you have no base to. chillis rock. i just spent £45 to go see them, i think thats more than compensation for downloading their album personally.POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 06:45 pm / quote |

thats the stupidest analogy I have ever heard. I would gladly buy Cds of all my favorite artists, but unfortunately I don't have $15 to just shell out for a CD with a couple songs I like. If CD's weren't so horribly overpriced, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Sure, I have a lot of music downloaded and it doesn't really bother me. I like this album and I respect the RCHP a lot, I think John Frusciante is a class A+ guitarists and I think he's pretty much amazing. I'm going to go buy the album, but buying an album from some band that isn't as good as RHCP isn't worth it. Downloading is illegal when you apply your real life morals to it - but this is the Internet. In case you haven't noticed, normal rules don't really apply here.POSTED: 05/05/2006 - 07:04 pm / quote |

CD's need to be shipped/delivered for the release dates and sent to reviewers etc. I'm sure all some one in the delivery process needs to do is open up on cd and rip it to the computer.
I was told of this news the other day when some one greated me saying they downloaded the new Red Hot Chili Peppers CD and telling me how much I liked it. I could not be happy for them or talk to them about it because I thought it was wrong. If he likes them so much then he needs to invest in the CD and spend money so that the band can keep making fantastic records.
I agree a small amount of file sharing, streaming singles etc. are good ways to find about new music. In some ways the internet has helped music sales and new artists by allowing there music to be found but in others it has hindered it where people can just download full albums.POSTED: 05/06/2006 - 02:18 am / quote |

: Those of you that have downloaded the album should be ashamed of yourself and even more so by stating that you have here. Flea is a very brillant and gets his music from his soul, so deep down that the music is him in a sense, the same with all of them, for that bit of their soul to be stolen and listened to by those that downloaded that album would shatter them. How would you feel if I came up to you when you jsut finished your album and burnt it and gave it to all my friends so they don't have to buy the new album and then they went on to sell hundreds of copies at markets making money of your creation for which you get nothing of in the proccess. Thats exactly whats happening here. They still need money to live, they might be muliti-millionares but have a think about this, after a tour the chili's themself only get 5-10% of the profit. a tonne of the profit goes to lawyers and the labell and their agent and manager and also 5% goes to a charity. They get squat compared to other artists who have made music a commericalised peice of shit. The level that the chili's write on is light years ahead of the majority of populat music on the charts today/ Go read Scar Tissue you whiny bitches who reckon they have to sample some music before they buy it in the form of downloading it illegally. You'll see how much of a deep level you shall hurt them on by ripping a part of their soul away and tearing it up.
Music is a langauge understood by all, it is a natural beuty for it to work so amazingly, it requires alot of thought and engery to be able to harness it the way they do, they put their sweet and tears and blood into what they do and to take this away from them is just not fair.POSTED: 05/06/2006 - 06:36 am / quote |

: ok, this war is getting tiresome. It doesnt make a difference if you download music or not. If you do, go for it...its america so everybody else is just gonna have to deal with it. If you wanna buy the cd, have at it, i personally dont have the money to buy every cd that i want to. So i download. Call me a thief, a cheat, a bootlegger...whatever you want. but theres nothing that can be done about it. And everybody that says "Oh, your killing the musician financially...thats how they make all the money." Uhh, wrong. The majority of major musicians make a HUGE chunk of they're money from ticket sales and merchandise sales. I believe, But dont quote me on this because i may be wrong (i am only human), that the artist takes home ten percent of the sum of money that the RECORD COMPANY makes off sales of the cd. The cd's are just a way for the artist to spread the music and get it to fans. Thats right, your not really paying for the music, your paying for the physical album and the work that went into printing and processing. However, in the artist defense, downloading does harm them in a way. You wanna go platinum or multiplatinum. Well you can only reach that through a certain number of sales and other figures. But i beleive that number should also include tickets sold to events. I cant stress the matter anymore, just let people listen and obtain music however they feel. Music is about love to musicians, no matter how heavy and aggressive it is. There is nothing to be said anymore about this matter. Thank you and goodbye, i hope this just calms everybody down. It bugs teh crap out of me that some musicians don't know how to handle this. Remember when radiohead put the entire album of Kid A on their website? Guess what. Many people agree it was one of the best albums of all time and went on to sell millions!!
Music should be free. That's all I have to say. |
Music should be free? Well thats one of the most brilliant things I've heard in a while. And where do you think the artists are going to get the money to MAKE the music if everyone stole their funds? (yes, you copy something for free that should have cost you money, that is stealing) And don't tell me they will get funds from their tours. Those tours cost alot for them to put on in the first place, so arists don't always make a killing on them. If you enjoy the music and you would like the artists to continue making QUALITY music, then you might consider at least buying the real album after you download it.
