I think the list is ok, expect for the Bon Scott being N.1, more people knw Angus than Bon, I didn't even know that was his name... since it's for Classic rock, I understand why Kurt Cobain is not there, and why is another memeber of AC/DC on the list..??32. Brian Johnson (Ac/Dc).. what the f-ck?? without the AC/DC shit, it's a fair list...

In my list, Robert Plant would be number one and Rod Stewart would be in the top five. Laugh all you want, but then consider this. Before The Jeff Beck Group came out with Truth in 1968, name a band that featured a dynamic singer and a flashy lead guitarist. Since then there have been countless bands of the kind (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, G'nR, every hair metal band), but the originals were Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck. And oh yeah, his voice is amazing.

Dudes, the singer is THE frontman, singer/guitar/bass players should not be included, only cats who sing and dance in FRONT of the band. The top ten is this:

Robert Plant
Mick Jagger
Bon Scott
Jim Morrison
Freddie Mercury
Axl Rose
Steven Tyler
David Lee Roth
Johnny Rotten
David Bowie

Honorable mentions go to Iggy Pop(for his ability to piss off just about anyone and everyone) and Scott Weiland(for his uncanny ability to blend charisma and melody into an untouchable vocal style)

To the guy who said elvis invented rock n roll, Little Richard invented rock n roll!!!! elvis just stole it and turned it into something white people could do!!!

As for the list, Axl rose deserves to be on the "worst frontmen ever" considering it was him who drove the other band members away and destroyed the "good" guns n roses....

Where the HELL is DAVE MUSTAINE!??

Heres my own top five:

1. Ozzy Osbourne
2. Robert Plant
3. Jim Morrison
4.Freddie Mercury
5. David Lee Roth...

i picked ozzy as number one because of all the crazy shit he's done and the fact that he was in TWO amazing bands, (one which invented heavy metal) and continues to rock and continues to have superstar status, unlike robert plant, whos solo career sucked, and bon scott, WHO IS DEAD!

Sure I believe that james hetfield should be on that list, definately in the top ten, but not the top five, he is great and everything but people will always remember my top five more than everything....and JAMES AND DAVE MUSTAINE ARE THE BEST RYTHM GUITARISTS IN THE BUSINESS!!!

someone said Malcolm young from ac/dc was the best rythm guitarist, I laughed and asked them if they've ever heard Dave play...

MY TOP FIVE IS BETTER!

kurt nobrain was shit by the way, he doesn't compare to anyone within the top ten....

Glad to see the OVERBLOWN AND OVERATED BEATLES didn't make it into the top ten, ugh they are annoying....

Yeah, Cobain wasn't that great, he played average talented music like bands of today. Just cause he died, he became famous. I believe Jimi Hendrix said something related to that. That when you die, you have finally made it. I can't remember the exact words. None of these legend bands wouldn't be legends if they weren't dead or broken up. Thanks Jimi.

SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT KURT COBAIN!! WE KNOW HE ISN'T IN THERE!!

At least 20 people have said "Where is Kurt Cobain?" and it's getting redundant. He isn't in there because
1) this was taken from a classic rock magazine
2) he is highly overrated (I like him, but face it: he isn't a guitar god, or an amazing singer)

dabonehead182:

"How could they forget Kurt Cobain. He's like a frickin legend. I agree though on Bon Scott and Jim Morrison R.I.P for both. Also what about Sid Vicious, Zack De la Rocha, Dave Mustaine, or Anthony Kedis."

My main point about the above post (besides that it has yet ANOTHER Cobain rant) is that Sid Vicious was crap. Why would he of all people be up there?

Okay zack de la rocha is a total prick, thats why he left RATM, FRED DURST, lol I am not even going to get into talking about him and LIMP Bizkit.... The deftones suck!

You actually think that these guys compare to legends like Ozzy, or freddie Mercury, half of them can't even sing right

Your opinion sucked ass

Also, wheres tom araya from slayer, Sammy Hagar, and the singer from deep purple

Ronnie James Dio within the top 10, I don't think so, sure he was good and stuff, but most people will only remember him as the guy who filled in for ozzy in black sabbath, not for rainbow, etc, like you guys... And anyways the singer from iron maiden is far better than him, so he'd deserve it more...

Somebody also freaked saying it was a CLASSIC ROCK list, um hello, JAMES HETFIELD IS ON THERE, and FYI david lee roth and van halen aren't considered classic rock!!!!

WHERES FRANK ZAPPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aetherFox wrote on 06/12/2004 - 02:02 pm / quote |
OMG...Some people don't get it.

Dudes, its CLASSIC ROCK.

Maynard and Vedder are absolutely unbelievably frontmen, but their music certainly isn't classic rock. Personally, I don't think Hetfield is that great a frontman, he's a bit of a dick, and HE'S NOT A CLASSIC ROCKER!!!

This list isn't that great...lists like these will always be like that. Everyone has an individual opinion. I don't see Ronnie Van Zant, Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, or David Bowie. Eagles, Floyd, Jethro Tull and many other bands had awesome frontmen. I think Robert Plant was the greatest frontman ever, personally.

Kurt Cobain wasn't that great, but yeah, he was a good frontman. Not good enough to take one of the top spots, even in an all time frontman list...that would be the same as this but have Eddie Vedder and Maynard on it.

Bon Scott was terrific. Has anyone ever wacheda god damned Ac/Dc concert with Bon Scott??? His Charisma and his " ya I belong on this stage" attitude kicks ass. R.I.P Bon Scott

and people read the God Damned thing, it is NOT from an Ac/Dc site it is from a magazine.

I don't know about Robert Plant being the best...I love Led Zeppelin(with a passion) but every live footage I have seen, Robert just stands there, and is kinda boring. Jimmy Page on the other hand was the entertainment.

Freddy Mercury diserves to be in the top, he rules.

Ozzy Should be higher.

And if ANYTHING, Steven Tyler should be higher. I just went to an Aerosmith concert...and WOW he is amazing. The stuff he performs on stage, dancing, the incredible voice, the charisma, and one point in the show he ran out and grabbed onto a trapeez and swung over the crowd upside down while holding himself up. I would like to take this time to remind you that he is 56.

But O well, these lists NEVER please anyone, so they should just stop doing them.

For a Classic Rock list I think its pretty good. I would've liked to see Michael Stipe on there but oh well. I think what most people on this board want is a modern rock frontmen list with people like Zac De La Rocha, Anthony Keidis, Kurt Cobain, James Hetfield, Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, etc. I think a modern list would be pretty cool too, it's only fair. I would call Roger the frontman of the Who on the strength of their performance at Woodstock alone. They were all the frontmen in interviews etc but thats not the point. I think Jimmy Page was just a front as Robert Plant in Zeppelin. Oh well. Good list, hat off to it.

I havent seen the whole list, but ive read most of the comments, and i have a few things to say:

-Kurt Cobain, as much as I love Nirvana is overrated. Otherwise, Eddie Vedder is so much better and should be up there.

-James Hetfield should be at least in the top 50

-Iron Maiden? Cmon....gimme a break....

-AC/DC isnt that great. they just got mainstream and popula, big deal, pearl jam sold more albums than them and u dont see Eddie Vedder up there (back to my point. I want Eddie vedder up there)

-Dont give me this f***ing bullshit about "this is a classic rock magazine, thats why kurt isnt on there" If Fred Durst is classic rock, Kurt Cobain is like Mozart

-Im gonna get hated by the AC/DC fans for this, but Brian Johnson was a better frontma than Bonn Scott. Admit it.

-Ok, this is my biggest gripe. All those motherf***ers who are like "Axle Rose is a loser, he destroyed Guns N' Roses, yada yada yada...." F**k You! If it wasnt for Axl Rose, those stupid 80's pop bands would still be on the charts. As a person, hes a a**hole, but as a frontamn in the late 80's he was dynamic. If you dont like like it, you can go listen to your f***ing 80's pop and glam rock and go f**k yourself.

this is so predictable. there's 50 of you who asked where he is. He isn't a front man. He plays guitar. plus he's not a great singer. Excluding Phil lynott none of the people in the top 10 are singers only. ac/dc never changed their sound before or after. Bonn scott is better than brian johnson because he captivated people. Brian had better pipes but he just stood there. Eddie vedder should be up there and kurt cobain and fred durst should not. remember. as much as you like them Metallica are not the be all end all of rock music.

I really don't like these stupid polls. They know that people are going say "Where's this person", "This person should be higher", or my personal favorite, "THERE'S NO WAY IN ^$#@ THAT PERSON SHOULD BE IN THIS LIST AND THEIR BAND SUX A$$" .
I haven't read the whole list but I think they're focusing on classic rock bands. This is why I don't think anyone after the 80s (I don't think it's classic enough) should be on that list (even Kurt Cobain, who I respect and admire) No grunge bands, no hair bands, no pop bands.

My personal top ten (In no particular order).
Freddie Mercury-Hands down. Number One. Everything a frontman should be and more. Setted standards still not met. Great piano player.
Elvis Presley-He made it cool for white people to like rock and roll.
Chuck Berry -He made it cool for everyone to love rock and roll.
Mike Jagger-Flamboyant and still ticking for 40 years.
The Who-All of the members were potential frontmen.
Jimi Hendrix-Killed with the guitar, then set it on fire.
Jim Morrison-Great singer, great performer. Made hippies act like lunatics.
Robert Plant-What a singer. Helped Led Zepplin float.
Ozzie Ozbourne-Before selling out & making an a$$ of himself, he helped Black Sabbath start heavy metal.
David Bowie-Take a look at Ziggy Stardust and tell me he doesn't belong here.

Honorable Mentions:
Janis Joplin-Sang her heart out. More soul than 90% of the other front(wo)men.
Eddie Van Halen-David Lee Roth brought girls, Eddie brought fans.
Ronnie James Dio-Made heavy metal heavier. Devil's horns beats peace sign.
Rotten and Vicious-Scared the hell out of England,as they should have been.

Should be more, can't think of any.

#7 James Hetfield
#8 Janis Joplin

Honourable Mention:

- Dan McCafferty
- Roger Daltrey

And btw people... ***in kurt cobain was 90's NOT classic rock, and yeah, he ***in sucks dick... so shut up about him already- oh, and fred durst?! like come on!!! he's a ***in idiot!!! Freddie Mercury is AWESOME, he's an awesome writer, performer, and is completely original... like look how long Queen has lasted before Fred died! He's inspiring. Also, how did Bon Scott make the top of the list?! can anyone explain me this?! And people, this list is for FRONTMEN ONLY, not lead/rythm guitarist... holy, read the fine print losers! also, about Axl Rose, awesome frontman, asshole in person... accept it. and 1 more thing... who cares if Freddie was a homo... ooo... *** off! he's one of THE best frontmen that rock, or any other kind of music has ever seen! so grow up, and accept it as a fact of life. where's meatloaf btw? i added him onto my 'honourable mention' list. thank you, and i hope you like my list. i also don't know all these frontmen, so some might be missing, i only did ones i knew of... i'm only 15 here, now, work with me!

For the few of you who said Maynard James Keenan, you obviously don't know anything about him at all. Sure he deserves a high ranking, especially as far as im concerned, but the last thing in the world he'd want is to be over-glorified and worshipped on some stupidass bullshit pop-contest rock icon list. Let alone have hundreds of idiots bitching that he wasnt on the list. I'm glad to see so few people suggested it, seems some of you do know something about Maynard.

Okay carliethepyro

You listed EDDIE VAN HALEN as one of your choices for GREATEST FRONTMEN and got mad at people for putting hetfield and mustaine on their lists

You MUST be 12 or something because EDDIE VAN HALEN NEVER WAS A FRONTMAN, he wrote the songs and played the guitar for VAN HALEN, DAVID LEE ROTH AND SAMMY HAGAR sung them,

moron

Also I listed james and dave because they WERE FRONTMEN!!!!! they just HAPPENED to play rythm guitar TOO, you're a total moron who do you think fronted metallica?? Kirk Hammet?? yeah, and David Ellefson fronted Megadeth too right???

Your comment made ABSOLUTELY no SENSE, maybe you should grow up and look into what your writting a LITTLE MORE..

ALSO to the dipshit who said AC/DC suck, *** you....
