Rolling Stones Tour: Biggest Earner Ever

The Rolling Stones have overtaken Irish rockers U2 for the record of biggest grossing tour in history.

The Mick Jagger fronted group's A Bigger Band tour have made $437 million (£226 million) from 110 concerts and performed to over 3.5 million fans.

The group's success comes despite several setbacks, including delays and cancellations due to Jagger developing laryngitis and a postponement when guitarist Keith Richards fell from a tree while on holiday in Fiji.

Jagger also had to return to the UK from the US two weeks ago when his father became ill and passed away.

Irish rockers U2 previously held the record for the top-grossing tour with their recent Vertigo tour making $377 million (£195 million).

the next u2 tour might top it. i mean u2 played croker an 80000 seater stadium in dublin and it was sold out the couple of nights they played if they wanted they could have played another 10 nights and it would of been sold out

i really cant think of too many bands who could top that. possibly pink floyd, i think if pink floyd toured with the zeppelin (even without bohnam)it would be the best tour ever, i hear paul and ringo are getting back together to, dont know how far that will go

not to be cynical, I love the stones but i saw them last december and it wasnt that great, definatly NOT worth the $160 for the crappy nosebleed seats, though with ticket prices that high, its no wonder the tour grossed so much.

The Stones are amazingly great. Paul McCartney and John Lennon should be given a little credit for hooking The Stones up with a few songs back in the day.

Wow, stones are awsome, but lets work the average ticket price out here. 437,000,000 divided by 3,500,000 is appox 125$ per ticket (For all you math geeks out there, the exact # is 124.8571428 ). For such a big band to tour that much, and sell tickets that high, its almost like they were looking to overthrow U2 from the podium. Ticket prices, IMO, are outta hand, front row/ground floor should only be 75-100 max, its too much about the money these days, and that stops alot of people from going to a concert like this.

i saw the stones in LA the other night(the last gig of the tour) and it was amazing. they were amazing. ron woods kinda sucks now though. but the rest of the group, top notch. second time seeing them this tour.

I know man. I wanted to go and see Roger Waters here in Australia at a pretty small stadium (bout 15000 seats). The cheapest seat was about $185 Australian and the most expensive as $420 (that equates to about $130-$350 American or thereabouts).

those numbers are amazing,but I agree,ticket prices for certain bands are getting too high,I paid 120 bucks to see the original GnR and Metallica on the same bill and was no more than a ice rinks width away from the stage.

yeah, I'd like to see the Stones too, but that price range, wowser

in comparison with U2's Vertigo Tour, my ticket only cost $50...easier on us poor people lol. But then again, the Stones' fan base goes WAY back, adults could afford their crazy prices
