Roy Khan Leaves Kamelot

Yesterday, April 22nd, the remaining four members of power metal giants Kamelot announced that singer Roy Khan has decided to leave the band. This statement was posted on their website:

"With a heavy heart we can now announce that Roy Khan has chosen to leave the band. We wanted to give him ample time for this kind of decision, due to his recent burnout and also the amount of amazing times we have shared with him in Kamelot. We respectfully accept his resignation from the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. The timing is actually good since we feel the uncertainty the fans have had can now be laid to rest and the band can move on to finding a new singer."

This break-up comes in the midst of a tour in promotion of Kamelot's ninth studio album, "Poetry For The Poisoned". However, Khan's departure has not stopped plans to continue touring, as the remaining members of Kamelot begin to search for a replacement.

"The tour is going great so far and the fans have been amazing throughout this entire process" - adds keyboardist Oliver Palotai. With the new tour already in progress, Kamelot has already begun the search for a new vocalist. "I have a few guys in mind", said band founder Thomas Youngblood. "And as you can imagine, it is a very important decision. There are some amazing singers that have already contacted us on this but we will take our time to find the right person. Due to the overwhelming success of the recent shows in South America, we are pleased to announce new shows in November/December for Europe (stay tuned)."

Until a permanent vocalist is found for the power metal group, it seems they will be relying on various guest vocalists for their upcoming shows:

"The band headlines the Print De Temps Festival tonight and will play a Amsterdam (nearing sold-out) concert tomorrow followed by a full headliner tour with special guests Evergrey, Amaranthe and Sons Of Seasons. (Guest vocalists Fabio Lione and Tommy Karevik). Thank you for your support and see you on tour!!"

Matt Laporte was next too.

I really loved Khan's voice in Kamelot, it really made them stand out. Saw them perform yesterday with Fabio on vocals and I can surely say that this will not be the end for Kamelot. There was Kamelot before Roy joined and there will be now that Roy has left.

Also, why the hell post that you don't know them? Go be useless somewhere else.

He had been in a "burnout" stage for a long time now. The band gave him the freedom of choice to leave or stay. If he needed a year or two to just take a break, he'd get it. But it turns out it's more of a "new found religion problem"...

I am not a huge fan of Kamelot in the since of I haven't bought an album, gone to a show, or learnt anything from any of their songs but I love the sound and I believe Khan's vocals were definately what set these guys apart. He was no Dio, but he was almost flawless from the things i've seen on Youtube.

Khan's departure leaves big shoes to fill for sure. But Khan was apparently burned out and just wasn't really feeling it anymore and he ultimately made the right decision for himself. I hope he resurfaces in a situation that will reinvigorate him as an artist. And, of course, Kamelot can find somebody equal or better to replace him.

That`s really bad news.. First Scott Columbus dying and now Roy Khan leaving Kamelot. Epica is for sure one of the best albums ever recorded and Roy Khan`s voice can never be replaced.. =(
