Scars On Broadway Sign With Interscope

Scars On Broadway, the new band from System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, have signed with Interscope Records and will release its self-titled debut on July 29. The pair held off on shopping for a record contract until completing the CD. Malakian told The Pulse of Radio that the music won't be as heavy as his work with System. "There are your aggressive moments, but I don't see it as being as metal as it is rock," he said. "It's just as eclectic as anything that I've done with System, so it goes place to place. I think you'll hear my style there, you know, you'll hear touches of what you've heard from me before in some ways, and like I said, I think it drives more in a rock way than it does in a metal way."

Both Scars On Broadway and System lead singer Serj Tankian declined to release their latest projects through Columbia Records, where System has been signed since 1998.

Tankian's debut solo effort, "Elect the Dead", came out last fall through the Warner Music Group.

Scars On Broadway made its live debut last month with a low-key show at the Whisky A-Go Go in Los Angeles, followed by a slot at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California. Tankian's solo band also played at Coachella.

A Scars On Broadway track called "They Say" can be streamed at this location.

System Of A Down has been on hiatus since 2006 while its members have pursued various personal projects.

I really dig that song. it's great, hopefully the album will be more of the same. If so then it's likely to be better than serj's solo album in my book.

During Coachella people saw Serj rocking out besides the set Scars of Broadway while they were playing. it was so amazing witnessing this

Same here. it's so simple yet so awesome and catchy... it was stuck in my head for ages, and i ended up working out most of it on guitar because of that

I was pleasantly surprised. I haven't really been a big fan of Daron's voice in SOAD, but it sounds pretty good in this song

You know its not his voice now that annoys me about him (which it did in mezmerize and hypnotize)... infact his voice there sounded pretty damn cool. However that song was just annoying and repetitive, part of it sounded like he was just wanking off his guitar.

Serjs solo stuff dominates this stuff like a gun made of empty syringes and venomous rattlesnakes shooting a care bear.

serj has been more successful but try not to compare it.....plus even tho "they say" is great i think its best to wait for more songs

i know... i'd say it's in drop c as well, cos the song was in C minor, but it's possible to play in standard and sound virtually the same.

ps if it's not in C minor and i horribly screwed up.... well.....meh.

System of a Down is dead. Those guys, neither Serj, nor Daron, will ever rediscover the chemistry they shared which made them the baddest, most innovative, band on the planet for ten years. It's sad, really. Like watching fat Elvis trying to relive his glory, or watching David Lee Roth trying to kick. Whatever.
