Seether Frontman Talks About Evanescence

Seether frontman Shaun Morgan has taken the time to personally respond to an Evanescence fan who has accused him of being the reason for guitarist Ben Moody's departure from the latter group.

Writing in response to a posting on Seether's official Bulletin Board, Morgan ? who has been dating Evanescence singer Amy Lee for the past six months ? said, "Wow! I didn't know I had so much power over Ben and his life and his career. If I'd known I would have done some things a little differently...

"Let me tell you, my friend, one day when you're a little older you might understand. Right now you need to

"A.) Blame Ben Moody's shitty attitude, and subsequent leaving of Evanescence on somebody, namely me. (Feel free to look up any big words in the dictionary or ask your Mommy)

"B.) Consider the fact that the guy really isn't the greatest guitar player in the world and that Evanescence might be better off with somebody else. (Oh my God, did I actually dare to write that about the great Ben Moody?)

"C.) Grow the fuck up. The only person I have to care about in Evanescence is Amy, and I really couldn't care less about Ben Moody or any of the skanky hoes he bangs on the road. Get a life and try to understand that your hero is nowhere near as cool as you think he is...

"Now, drink your milk, have your cookies and go to bed before Mommy gets angry..."

Meanwhile, an "associate" of Moody's (or possibly Moody himself) has made a posting on Ben's behalf on the Evanescence message board EVBoard.com regarding the rumors that Moody is writing songs with Avril lavigne for her next album and that he may be joining her touring band.

Claiming to be speaking "for Ben," the user named "The Priest" wrote, "Contrary to popular belief on this board, Avril is a very talented and competent songwriter. Whether or not you like the songs she writes is coincidental. She is talented, and not a poser. That is not a vague notion I get from interviews, or the Internet... that is my professional opinion. So... please don't waste... valuable webspace arguing your opinion about whether or not Avril is cool or whether or not I should work with her or whether or not she is worthy. She is. Period. Unless you have worked with her or have personal experience, your opinion does not amount to much. Sorry... I know that's harsh, but it's true. I wrote some songs with her because it was a fun experience. I'm not joining her band, and it wasn't to counteract anything having anything to do with Evanescence. It's just what I do."

Evanescence is NOT that good. they hae had some ok songs (whisper is ok, going under too), but overall, they suck.

Avril, too; I haven't heard a single song of hers that I like.

I hate to say this but you guys really don't have any effect on what these people do when you're just sitting back in your chairs and bitching. Paying patrons might, but it's a slow process getting a band to change in the way you want it to and even then, that's pretty much selling out. Do deal with Ben Moody's leaving, deal with him joining avril. Shit happens; cry me a river, then build a bridge and get the f*ck over it.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at anyonehere, but I'm tired of hearing all these people whine and complain when stuff happens that they don't like in "thier" band.

Wow. 2 terrible Nu Metal bands who have conflicts with each other. That\\\'s laughable. That\\\'s like the Mickey Mouse Club fighting with each other. Wo wo wo, slow down... I can't stand teh word metal with the word Evanescence in the seme sentence. These 2 DO NOT MATCH. Evanescence in nothing more than a pop, alternative band. It's not because thet play with guitars and bass and drums that they're "metal". Hey The Eagles played their instruments and they ain't a metal band.

I don't actually care about seether (actually I've never heard them) but morgan is right by saying that Ben Moody isn't the greatest guitar player. Hey Evanescence's songs are the perfect ones to learn if you are beginning guitar and want to say to people that you can play some songs that are on the radio. Period.

I happen to like Seether and have no problem with Evanescence. I agree that the fan should not blame shaun for something like that. If a member of a band is going to get so caught up in stuff like that then why be in a band. He'll probably will come across the same thing somewhere down the road. Plus, it still seems like there is a lot more to this then just shaun. As for the Avril thing, Im not a fan but I respect what she does. She sells CD's no matter how much we may complain about how she sounds she is still going to sell CD's. So what if Ben wrote some songs with her maybe it might give her a sound that fans of other genres of music might find themselves listening to her.

Yes, Evenescance, Avril and Seether MUST be somewhat talented to sell the records that they do (talented at SOMETHING, anyways); either that, or americans and people in general are just plain dumb. Quite frankly I'm inclined to beleive both.

Unfortunately, that said, I still have to say that people need to deal with stuff. Granted, music is a great thing and it can be a way of life for some people, but I think fans need to get over it... stuff ends, you know? Everything has a beginning and an end. I guess I feel the same way about this as I do about people sobbing and killing themselves and such when the beatles broke up- it's really not worth all the fuss.

But then. that's coming from an over-loaded high school senior who has bigger things on his mind as is than a couple of pop bands he doesn't care for...

I'm not gonna really direct my attention to this fued. Because the Seether guy comes off sounding retarded, and who knows why Moody left. BUT I think its funny that I have a guitar one or guitar world, with Ben Moody and in it he says hes a shredder at heart, and wished Evanesence had more metal to it. So he leaves the band for AVRIL?! Seether, Moody and Amy Lee should just form one big band. That way I dont have to hear twice the shit on the radio, we condense it into one.

I'm a fan of both Evanescence and Seether, more so of Evanescence, so shoot me.

Anyways, I just think it's really dumb for someone to blame Shaun on Ben's leaving from Evanescence. Nobody ***in' knows the reason why he left, so people should just shut the *** up and stop assuming all this shit. That's like the guitarist from Avenged Sevenfold leaving, and some fan of them blaming someone from another band for his leaving. It's just stupid to assume this stuff, when it's probably not true. I'll admit, though, that what Shaun said in that post wasn't right, and he came off as an asshole. That's not saying, though, he is an asshole, because I don't think he is. He seems like a cool guy, but I think he could have worded his post differently.

Shaun Morgan you are a legend. Seether are probably the best band to emerge in the last 3 years IMO. And it's do dam refreshing to see someone stand up for themselves personally instead of hiding behind their lawyers. You idiots who slate him should read up on his past. Just some thoughts on Seether and Evanescence:

Although Seether sounds very professional my opinion on the band can be expressed in one word: unoriginal.
For the younger ones that never heard Nirvana they may come off pretty cool. But when you take away the professionally softened grunge sound, nothing much remains. Just look at the crappy Lyrics. The Concept behind the Band seems to be 'Denouncing Pop-Culture for Dummies'.
I formed this opinion on the Basis of just three songs: Gasoline, Driven Under and Fine Again. Please forgive me, if there is another face to the band.

Contrary to Seether, Evanescence cought my attention exactly because they are not (NuMetal, not Gothic but somewhat innovative. It doesn't make sense to put them in either category. Gotta judge them on their own merit. As concerns the future of the band, I'm rather pessimistic. When I look at Amy's dissing of Christina and Britney, it's clear to me that her hooking up with Shaun Morgan is based on a meeting of the minds (on the level of Shaun's). So it's hard to expect much from the rest of Evanescence. If I'm right then the innovative part left with Ben Moody. May be he can help Avril get over that teen-punk thing, but he can't give her a new voice.

Evanescence, no matter how you look at it, has become apart of a change. Maybe not in a distinct manner, but in a way that shows they are going to grow and become even better. Amy Lee's vocals conveys an incredible approach to experimentation. Lyrically (with the exception of several songs), Amy Lee can write- especially in "Hello"- "I am the lie living for you so you can hide..."
