Sepultura Move On Without Cavalera

Brazilian thrashers Sepultura have yet to comment on yesterday's announcement that their drummer and co-founder, Igor Cavalera, has left the group due to "artistic differences."

However, according to a posting on the band's official web site, guitarist Andreas Kisser, Derrick Green and Paulo Xisto Jr. have vowed to continue with the group despite this major setback.

In the meantime, Sepultura's latest CD, "Dante XXI", will receive its long-awaited South American release (featuring two bonus tracks) next month. Tour dates in Brazil and North American are expected to be announced soon.

Igor announced earlier in the year that he was taking a break from the group's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January). Filling in on drums during the band's European tour with In Flames was Roy Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max in Soulfly for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003.

Igor is the second Cavalera to leave Sepultura. In 1996, Max Cavalera exited the group after the rest of the band fired Max's wife Gloria as Sepultura's manager.

Sepultura have now officially selected Jean Dolabella (ex-Udora) as their new touring drummer following Roy Mayorga's decision to join Stone Sour as a full-time member.

Wonder how long it really will last after this.

Oh well, sounds like the beginning of the end for Sepultura. Shame

They're going to keep going strong. Dante XXI was a solid album that finally brought the band out of the shadow of its former self (ie, the times with Max). I saw them on that tour with In Flames and they appeared very strong and full of energy. It'd be suprised if this'd be the end for them.
Too bad that Roy Mayorga isn't available as full time drummer. He really impressed me with his drumming and would've fit in Sepultura very well.

I'd like a chance to see them live at some point

wtf? it's the cavalera's band, if igor quits the whole band should disband. it's like an iron maiden without Arry

DehumanizeR has the idea here. i'm so sick of bands continuing, or at least keeping the name, after all of the originals are gone or if theres maybe one left. they should change their name to "Dante XXI (a Sepultura tribute)".

How are they not Sepultura?

Andreas Kisser Joined in what? 86/87
Paulo Jr sometime before 91
Derrick Green around 97?

(had to use wiki to find those out :p)

Those are all substantial amounts of time to be part of a band...but nooo they arent the originals so they just instantly suck *rolls eyes*

I was about to say what about Roy? but then I read he is now part of Stone Sour, which is really awesome. And Sepultura isn't Sepultura anymore? Yeah they are, I mean that's still their name isn't it? Of course they aren't what they used to be, but I know for a fact that even if Igor, better yet, even if Max stayed in the band, they would of never been the same band they were in the beginning. This is known for a fact because these guys are always changing their sound and trying something new, and that is what I like about Sepultura and Soulfly. The fact that Sepultura has survived all this time is just amazing, I know they will continue on, and it's not gonna be really interesting what they do next.

I want them to become Thrash again. Hardcore ****ing insane Thrash, ala Beneath the Remains. But the slower songs with Max was great too, now thet are not Sepultura no more, they should be called: "X-Pultura" instead.

In my opinion sepultura died in 1996 but the body has now well and truly decomposed. Oh well, now i just pray for the Cavaleras to rejoin and bring thrash to the masses once more.

It's just not the same anymore. Dante XXI isn't that great of an album, and everything sounds watered down since they started moving into the groove metal genre. Derrick Green isn't as good of a singer as Max Cavalera, and they only have one guitarist now. They should just stop for a while and try to plan a reunion in a few years

No they don't instantly suck. They have taken time to get worse over the years. Kisser doesn't even solo anymore. Max Cavalera wrote most of their music. He even came up with the band name. Once all of the original members of a band are gone. It is not even the same band. That is the case with Sepultura.

That doesn't make them bad or 'not Sepultura'

I think they're just as great as they used to be

ok, so how would u like black sabbath to change their name? based on ur comment black sabbath should've changed their name at least 30 times. a band is a band. if u wanna change the name ur band then u gotta start over. i dont think that sepultura or anybody else would wanna leave their status just to change their name

just because they lost both of their main members doesnt meen they suck just like that, we ll have to see if they suck when we hear them play without igor and judge them then, anything could happen they might discover someone really good to replace igor anything can happen
