Christian band Sixpence None The Richer, famed for the pop hit "Kiss Me," is calling it quits.
In a letter to fans published in CCM Magazine, principal members Leigh Nash and Matt Slocum announced that the group is disbanding after 10 years together. Nash recently had a baby and plans to devote time to her family. Slocum says he wants to travel and may go back to school.
Sixpence began its career in the Christian music community, then achieved mainstream success with the singles "
Kiss Me" (a No. 2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100) and a cover of the
La's' "
There She Goes." Wrangling with a series of labels delayed the group's most recent album, "
Divine Discontent," which was released in October 2002 on Reprise and Squint, a Word Records imprint.
