Slash Talks Weiland's Departure, Search For New Singer

RollingStone.com spoke exclusively with Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash yesterday (April 3rd) regarding the band's decision to split with frontman Scott Weiland.

On Weiland's departure:

"Everybody’s just very relieved. This is something that’s been coming down for a while. I know everybody is tying the STP [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunion tour] thing to it, but it started way before that. We just had a lot of commitments to fulfill, so we just had to drag this thing out until the obligations were finished. Basically, we're just excited about finding someone else and moving on."

On the search for a new frontman:

"There's some people, but it's really premature to start naming names. We actually worked with a guy, I won't mention his name, before we left to go to the UK and there just wasn't enough to break him in, so we're gonna work with him again some more, and maybe some other guys as well."

On Weiland's recommendation that the band hire former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach:

"I thought [Weiland] could be a little bit more imaginative. I'm not sure if that was meant to be a pot shot or what. Whatever, it's not worth any real drama."

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

This is going to be interesting to see who they pick, definatly not Bach, at least if they want to move forward.

Good to see he didn't bag Weiland either, but ignored him.

when they were originally looking for a singer they tried out known and unknown singers, scott just fit what they wanted at the time. They did fly out a bunch of unknown guys who had sent in tapes though. So I don't think they will be looking for either specifically, they are looking for someone who fits the role they need, whatever that may be

After all of this, I respect Slash alot more. He is being mature about the whole situation and isn't stooping down to Weiland's level. This just shows how much of a smart guy he is cause he knows it will bite him back in the ass if he starts dissing Weiland. And the people who were saying it's all slash's fault are dead wrong. It was slash that left Axl not the other way around and the rest of the band left Axl too cause he was a dick. And Scott was the reason why STP broke up in the first place and the other members absolutely hated him towards the end so I can see why Scott wasn't getting along with VR either. If Slash was such a bad guy then Matt and DUff would have left him long ago. And Izzy usually still says good things about Slsh too.
The whole drama of the last few weeks just prove who the bad guy is and it's definately not Slash. And if he was an ass then he definately doesn't show it.

If I had to pick a singer for Velvet Revolver I would pick John Garcia from the stoner rock band kyuss. He isn't very well known so he wouldn't come with all the rockstar baggage and he has been in plenty of other bands in the past and he always seems to be about the music above anything else. I know stoner rock is different from what VR plays but I can still see it working out if they make compromises. His singing style kinda reminds me of Weilands but alot better. He would take the band to a new direction and that's what they need. I would also say Chris Cornell would be a good choice for the band but I can't see it lasting more then one album. Cornell prefers doing his own thing.

I don't like much of their stuff at the moment. Scott has a unique voice but I just don't like the way he uses it.

Where the hell did Cornell come from btw? I don't know what to make of him. He doesn't appear to fit in to their old stuff. Oh well, never stopped the move from Guns to Velvet Revolver.

And you can't deny the fact that it's never gonna happen. Slash is never going to beg for his job in Guns because he doesn't need to. He's doing just fine.

Good to see he didn't bag Weiland either, but ignored him.

His voice is cool but I don't think it's quite fitting to VR's sound lol.

Anyway I don't know who they should get really. As much as I love Cornell, I don't think he'd work well with this band. Get someone fresh.

Also, Slash wins. He just totally owned Weiland without owning him at all... way more mature. Totally took the higher ground there. That's +5 agility, you know.

IF it ends up being Patton or Cornell or someone like that, which it won't....I would rather they just do a one album experiment to fulfill VR's contract, and then call it quits. I also said John Garcia earlier on in this article. We are thinking the same. He would be my number one pick for the band. Earlier I was picturing Garcia singing to set me free and get out the door and I got a little excited. He would be perfect for songs like that. But I can't really picture him singing fall to pieces or last fight but they don't really need to play those songs again.

My picks for lead singer for VR are:
1. John Garcia
2. Mark Lanegan
3. Chris Cornell
4. Iggy Pop (Yeah I know I'm crazy but that would be badass, not as good as the stooges though)
5. Celine Dion

Just kidding about the last one, don't flame me lol.

1. New Foo album was at the very least, decent.
2. SCOTT STAPP????? I think if the guys learned anything from their time with Axl it's that you DON'T want the most egotistical maniac in the world in your band. Scott Stapp thinks he's Jesus fucking Christ for crying out loud. We don't need an egotistical AND highly religious guy in this band. That would fail faster than Chinese Democracy is about to.
