Having left guitarist Jeff Hanneman
at home to recover from a serious infection caused by a spider bite, health hoodoos continue to plague Slayer
with Tom Araya
the latest band member to fall ill.
The band played the opening night of their Australian tour at Soundwave in Brisbane, before Araya was rushed to hospital suffering from a severe ear infection. The latest blow threatens to scupper the three remaining dates on the Soundwave tour in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth but festival organisers have their fingers crossed that Araya might recover in time to continue.
Australia seems to be unlucky for Araya who had to cancel shows there in 2009 due to a bout of laryngitis whilst touring with Megadeth
and the frontman had to have treatment for severe spinal issues forcing the band to withdraw from more dates down under in 2009 and 2010.
In fact Kerry King
insisted in drafting in replacement guitarist Gary Holt
from Exodus as a replacement for Hanneman to avoid disappointing Australian fans this time round.
Reports say that Araya is feeling much better after treatment but was awaiting test results before any decision could be taken as to whether to continue or not.
