Slipknot CD Seized During Search Of Homicide Scene

According to NewsOK.com, a "demonic drawing," handwritten notes, a novelty bullet, four knives, a dagger and a CD of the heavy metal group Slipknot were collected from the bedroom floor of a slain couple's burned home in Midwest City, Oklahoma during a police investigation of their teenage grandson.

Kyle Smith, 17, is accused of attacking his grandparents with a machete, videotaping their bodies and setting the house on fire. He is being held in Oklahoma County jail. Prosecutors plan to charge him by April 11.

Police Chief Brandon Clabes said Smith "admitted to investigators when he was arrested that he was into heavy metal music."

According to a police affidavit released last Friday (March 25), Smith used his cell phone to shoot video that shows the couple's bodies on the floor of their home and the end of a machete poking at the heads and eyes of the bodies. Police said Smith can be heard talking during the video, but they would not release what was said.

Police have not released any information suggesting a motive for the killings.

Slipknot's already been blamed once for something like this: One such case from 2003 involved a pair of young killers who blamed the lyrics from the song "Disasterpiece" for their vicious crime. Another from 2006 involved the lyrics from the song "Surfacing" being found at the site of a grave robbing.

Metal or any other kind of specific genres of music are not specifically evil or bring people to do these things. But music does have the power to influence people, very heavily in some cases. I've seen it happen, its not pretty. Some people are more sensitive to the power conveyed in the notes, and if that person is involved with demonic or purely evil things, they can be more open and influenced by it. The artist's emotions and spirit can be conveyed through their music. Not to rip on Slipknot or any other bands, as i enjoy metal myself, but if he felt an evil influence through the music, and it was so overwhelming, then the music could have pushed him farther into doing this.

Not that it is definite, but its always a possibility. The power of music should never be reckoned with.

Meh, everyone that's blowing this out of proportion fail to realize that the Slipknot CD was FOUND among the list of items at the crime scene. They haven't gone out and directly said "We blame Slipknot for the murders". I don't know, maybe you guys should take a look at the kid who recorded the bodies and think "This kid is ****ed up and crazy, but coincidentally he likes metal"

April fools aside, this is just another example how Conservatists blame metal when there's nothing else to blame for someone's actions. Same thing goes for Judas Priest back in the day, Manson after the Columbine shooting, this, plus hundreds of other examples of these people blaming metal for no legitimate reason. These are the same people that want to take "violent" video games off the shelves and are the same people that tell you you shouldn't masterbate.
