Slipknot To Unveil New Masks

On July 1, Slipknot, the Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum nine-man hard rock enigma, will unveil its new imagery in an exclusive partnership with AOL Music, the web's most trafficked online music destination. This highly anticipated debut kicks-starts the launch of Slipknot's new album, "All Hope Is Gone", which is set for release on Roadrunner Records in August. Masks are an integral part of the band's identity and to reflect this point, AOL Music's Spinner.com will host a retrospective photo gallery of Slipknot masks throughout its career, spanning all three previous albums and including the most recent controversial "Purgatory Masks." The Slipknot mask unveiling will be featured on the main page of Spinner.com worldwide for 24 hours.

Starting this Sunday, June 29, stop by any Hot Topic store to hear the new Slipknot single, "Psychosocial". The song will be played every hour on the hour.

"Psychosocial" will make its way to radio stations on June 30 and be available online July 1. Percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan told The Pulse of Radio everything he could about the track. "One thing I can feel is like that song has got a lot of, like, you know, I would say social anxiety," he said. "It's got a real good tempo and it's really, you know, today. It's really fun and it's different. I think most of the stuff that we have is different."

Slipknot has tapped Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Fear Factory, Bullet For My Valentine, Napalm Death) to mix its fourth label album titled "All Hope Is Gone". Due on August 26 via Roadrunner Records, the disc was recorded with producer Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Mudvayne) at a studio near the band's hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor said in a press release about the new CD, "Every album we have made is a statement about that space in time. I think this era is the most mature, most beautiful and the most powerful. We have made an album that will show the road behind, the road ahead, and where we are as men. I think it's the best thing I've ever made."

The last Slipknot studio album, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", arrived in 2004 and sold more than a million copies in the U.S.

Slipknot will co-headline the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour this summer with Disturbed. The trek, which also features Dragonforce, Mastodon, Machine Head and others, kicks off on July 9 in Seattle.

I agree. The masks never bothered me, it's a part of their act and show. But, recently they've been doing all of these promotions with companies like Clique, Spinner, and Hot Topic, and in my opinion it just makes them look like they're in it more for the money than expressing themselves through music.

Corey Taylor is actually a very good looking dude now that he has a haircut and has sobered up and gotten in shape. Saw him with Stone Sour. Can't say or the rest of the band though.

i heard psychosocial over the weekend. before its online release of july 1st. i will say the singing that corey did in that song is really good. the screaming is just okay. i guess i like it better when he actually sings more than the screaming. he's a good screamer though. so this song to me is better than all hope is gone. maybe there's hope for slipknot yet.

To the people that compared slipknot to kiss, i disagree. Kiss's fixation with image was to commercialise themselves and thus gain money, not musical integrity. Whether you love, like, dislike or hate slipknot, i think it is clear that they use masks to dissassociate themselves as individuals from the band, to aid the band as a machine for making music, something they are clearly concerned with, especially Corey Taylor, who has also gained success without the mask.
Really looking forward to the new album, not too concerned with the masks but hey ho, might be interesting.

I loved Slipknots first two albums, and loved the masks they wore for the first two albums. I orginally thought the masks were the coolest thing, when they changed em, i stopped thinking that. They've gone to far, Corey Taylor, along with most of the other 8 members, have already revealed thier faces to the public, so to me now, the masks dont make any sense. Thier music changed alot since the S/T, and while its sitll decent in my opinon its not like the first two. Im not sure what to think of the new album, becuase I've yet to hear it. Slipknots gone corporate.. thier in it for the money now, oh well.. more power to em

The masks are not there so you don't notice how they look, and listen more to the music. Then the masks would be simple. The only one in the band with actual musical talent is Joey Jordison, and funny enough, he has tons of side-projects, which prooves he has discovered that Slipknot is too weak, to let him get out his creativity.

And the reason Slipknot is such a big deal, is because the lyrics speak to teenagers going through puberty, since they often feel sad about this or that, and simply hate the world around them. This IS the majority of Slipknot's fanbase. No question about it..

Now, why would anyone who actually has interrest in music like a band with a bad singer(Cause.. sorry to say, that IS what he is), Semi-sucky musicians, who wear masks for media attention, whose songs is all about whining about something, then shouting about something, a band with a fanbase based on 14 year old emo-kids, with small spiked-bracelets, who are total sellouts, and do every effort in the world to make MONEY. Not to mention that, atleast the frontman Corey - is really, really unintelligent. Ever seen an interview with the fella. Makes me laugh.

They are. MFKR was a good quality album but unfortunately for them, they didn't make enough money off it so they decided to become more radio friendly so that they could make more money. now we all know that when a band sells out they get worse which is exactly what Slipknot did.

The masks were done in the first place as a joke because every member at the time of the creation of slipknot was in a different band. The band started off as a side project that wasnt supposed to be taken seriously, and thats why you shouldnt take the masks seriously either.
