SOAD Reunion At Halloween Performance

artist: system of a down date: 11/03/2009 category: general music news
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Three members of System Of A DownDaron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums) — plus Scars On Broadway's Franky Perez performed three songs (including SOAD's "Suite-Pee" and Scars On Broadway's "They Say") at Shavo's Halloween party at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California on Saturday (October 31). Check out photos by ErikVoake.com at this location.

Fan-filmed video footage of the "Suite-Pee" performance can be viewed here.

In October 2008, Malakian announced via Scars On Broadway's web site that the band's headlining tour — which included an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" — was being cancelled, with no plans of rescheduling. Malakian cited his lack of enthusiasm and "his heart not being into touring" as the chief reasons behind the decision to call off the trek. "The music of SCARS will live on, but now is a time when aspects of my life need to be tended to," he said in a statement.

Scars On Broadway sold just under 24,000 copies of its self-titled debut album in the United States during its first week of release to debut at position No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number represented roughly 36 percent of the 66,000 opening tally registered by "Elect the Dead", the debut solo effort from System Of A Down lead singer Serj Tankian, which came out in the fall of 2007 through the Warner Music Group.

"Scars On Broadway" has shifted just 78,000 copies in the United States since its July 29, 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

There wasn't any bad blood between these members though?

hmm no :/ it's really nothing unless its Serj and Daron suddenly doing something.

I personally prefer Serj's album then Scars on Broadway. Please just hug it out and get back together :/

Me three! SOAD without Serj wouldn't be SOAD.

I know, it's not SOAD withou Serj...But at least the three of them jamming is a sign that maybe in the future SOAD will reform

I don't think this is any indication of a future reunion. The two egos weren't pitted against each other. Until we see Serj and Daron hug each other and share words of endearment, I don't see much hope for a reunion.

I didn't think it was anything personal.....I thought SOAD decided to temporarily split up so each respected member can do their own thing....Was there any bad blood between any of the members, because if so I never heard about it, which would be sad because I am a HUGE fan of their music

+1
It's really not the same without Serj there

There was no bad blood between any of the members. They just figured it was their time to end it and honestly I respect them for that. It's something that many many bands who will go unnamed should take example from.

Misleading title, no Serj means no reunion

strat0blaster wrote on 11/03/2009 - 03:28 pm / quote |
Misleading article title is misleading. In order for it to be a reunion, all original members have to be present.

Daron's interviews after the 'hiatus' would state otherwise.

Daron: ...four people make System Of A Down, and if one of those people in that four doesn't wanna do System Of A Down, then you can't do System Of A Down.

RF.net: Alright. Is there any kind of rivalry between you guys, between these new bands, in terms of...

Daron: No, I don't wanna get into questions like that, I wanna talk about Scars. I don't wanna talk about System Of A Down soap operas and shit.

no one who has commented on this has got it right so far...they aren't reuniting without serj, the article clearly shows that three of them got together and played some songs. there was never any bad blood between them, they just decided to pursue other things for a bit, which i'm sure anyone on here who's been in a band can understand, even if the band hasn't taken off yet. i myself work on a few different bands and projects so i won't get bored working with the same three or four people for huge periods of time. they haven't split. they didn't decide to end on a high point. they just wanted a break from system for a while.

I've heard Serj is really busy atm with a DVD to come out soon... Maybe after that? I don't know, let's hope they'll get back together sooN

pretty amazing, though, to hear something about Daron again

This is because this album was the best thing i've ever heard from a SOAD member. Daron is obviously the brains of the whole operation, screw Serj, This solo album was half man, half amazing!

It should say partial reunion. This is awesome, but not a full reunion.

dedguy666 wrote on 11/03/2009 - 08:22 pm / quote |
I honestly don't see this band reuniting anytime soon.

Pff, reunion... I hate it when people call stuff like this a reunion. It's not a reunion if the band is not complete.

This is not a reunion -_-

Serj has a studio in Europe, and he is recording his second album there

Screw you GenerationKILL, serj was ten times smarter than Malakian, serj played every instrument on Elect The Dead. the reason why system broke up was because Daron was a stuck up cocky drug head.
