Student Shot Himself After Demanding Teacher To Praise Marilyn Manson

An eighth-grade student at Larose-Cut Off Middle School in Larose, Louisiana shot himself in the head during school this Monday morning after he shot at a teacher for refusing to praise musician Marilyn Manson, reports DailyComet.com. The student was not killed; however, he remains in critical condition at Terrebonne General Medical Center.

Fifteen-year-old Justin Doucet reportedly barged into Jessica Plaisance's seventh-grade English class and demanded that everyone get on the ground. He then told the teacher to say "Hail Marilyn Manson." Doucet fired the gun at the woman twice. The first time it didn’t go off and the second time the bullet flew above her head and left a hole in the wall behind her.

Doucet then asked one of the students in the classroom to leave with him, but the student refused. It was then that Doucet exited the classroom, walked to a nearby bathroom, and shot himself. Nobody except for the gunman was injured during the event.

Classmates of the boy say that along with Marilyn Manson, he also had an obsession with Adolf Hitler. Police investigations reveal that the boy’s 25-caliber nickel plated semi-automatic handgun belonged to his father. Police also discovered that the boy had written a suicide note that detailed his plans to kill others and then himself.

Officials say that the school did not have metal detectors in use at the front entrance of the school and that they believe the boy came in through a back entrance.

Following the shooting, the school was put on lockdown where the students were searched for weapons and then picked up early by their parents. The school has since been deemed safe and is expected to open again on Tuesday morning with added security.

Things like this are the reason why there's a social stigma involved with liking Marilyn Manson. I started listening to a few of his songs, and he's not bad at all, but the image he puts on makes it so that if I were to start telling people he's actually pretty good, I'd get looked at like a weirdo, as if I embrace everything he is.

One arguments says that no matter what happens, as long as it is an awful thing - such as this - regardless what it is or how many of the potential explanations presents itself, the cause should be removed from the public. If Manson's music really does instil violence and acts of terrorism, no matter how few instances occur or how far-fetched they may seem, then maybe it should be banned – at least more strictly towards minors.
The other argument is that it wasn't the music's fault, directly. He just happened to mention Manson's name and his repertoire of tunes at the time. The real reason for the shooting was mainly severe psychological issues - along with possible parental negligence and Nazism. And, as a tributary of that thought, should artistic material be taken from the public just because of that one small link? Manson expresses himself - should the laws be bent to stop him from doing that?

The press has to have something to show to the public. The readers look to the media as an answer for the problems of the world... and the media has to find one. no matter what. Aqua being the cause of rampages and suicide is just too ridiculous; no one will buy it. But Metal... possible links to Satanism worship, it's history of violence, drug abuse, depression, and alcoholism... that's a far more chewable conclusion.

The kid is an epic failure. 1. Even with a gun, he couldn't intimidate a teacher into saying a not so heinous line "Hail Marilyn Manson." I agree with what you're saying about the press, the media does look for answers- these answers might be implicit but it does happen.
However, this kid explicitly mentioned Marilyn Manson; it's not simply a casual link the media has contrived. Manson's music had a direct effect on the attempted murder. In at least one way can Manson be blamed for what happened, therefore, he must change his ways, music and attitude!

No. Even though I hate Slipknot, they also get attacked because MORONS kill people and blame it somehow on the bands. Music will not make someone depressed. Depressed kids will listen to depressing music. But if you are like me, very happy and loves everything, and listen to manson, you see it as just music. There is nothing wrong with his music. He is just another Metal artist.

But if you are already suicidal and you hear Mansons music, you may take it the wrong way. That is absurd. Essentially, that was Tipper Gore's stance, and now we have "parental advisory." If you want to get that impractical, society/parents/guardians failed by allowing an "underage" person to listen to Manson's music. But MM is an extremely intelligent person, and his lyrics often reflect his wit and sarcasm. If somebody that listens to it can't understand or handle it, Manson should not be to blame. These types of attacks have happened with past musicians as well. Remember, Manson isn't the first of his kind. It's like when a large portion of society blamed Elvis for all the sex they thought their kids were having — pay attention, the sex/violence has always been there, it's just a matter of how/when/if we see it happening, and who we try to blame for it. And I think your comment on depression undermines both Manson's music and depression (spoiler alert: Manson's music isn't about "depressing" anybody at all; some of it is quite "happy" in all honesty). Let's face it, nobody blames the blues for making people sad, cause that's NOT what it's about.

To the folks complaining about how he shouldn't have had access to the gun, be realistic- The kid lives in Louisiana. I live in the south and I can attest to the fact that perfectly normal eighth grade boys shoot at cans and hunt with their dads. Almost everyone I know has at least one gun in their house and I can't think of any that have them under lock and key, but they're taught to respect firearms. You can definately blame the parents for raising a dumbass, but free access to a gun is a completely normal thing down here. You can kill a man with a pencil too- The point is to teach your kids that murder is wrong.

first of all let me say it,I'm a christian that enjoys metal. Now, to my point. Its not society's fault, its not even Manson's(although I'm not a fan), and it has nothing to do with gun control. America made the mistake of letting firearms be purchased by the public in the first place. Probably cause you won your freedom with them or some shit, but it did happen a couple of hundred years ago, so maybe its about time you restricted the amount of firepower you have.
In Australia, and I live in Sydney, which has the highest rate of crime anywhere in the Country (as far as I'm aware) it would be almost impossible for a 15 year old to get their hands on a gun unless their rents or brother were criminals.

I have no real beef with guns if they're used responsibly, for stuff like hunting... But when the **** is a handgun used for hunting? Unless you're hunting in a school or car park? Until such a time as society is ready to responsibly use guns. They should be banned, and destroyed.

Point I'm from aus as well. Gun violence in general is pretty much unheard of here. As well as rednecks (maybe in castlemaine).

Depressed kids will listen to depressing music. But if you are like me, very happy and loves everything, and listen to manson, you see it as just music. There is nothing wrong with his music. He is just another Metal artist.

But if you are already suicidal and you hear Mansons music, you may take it the wrong way. Instead of bashing the artist and saying that he should not be alowed to release music is not the right thing to do. Maybe society should go after the moronic kids that want to shoot themselves. I could care less if guns are legal or not when it comes to the issue of me owning one. I won't. that's my choice. Alot of people feel the same way. While i don't believe all guns should just be totally illegal, there is no need for: automatic weapons, and gun licenses for parents to ignorant to lock up their guns. hunting weapons should be allowed for hunting. automatic for military, and NOTHING else. There need to be stricter laws about how people acquire guns, and how they are stored.

the thing is, messed up people are attracted to Manson. Manson doesn't create messed up people. BLAMING it on Manson is wrong. but being a Manson fan COULD be a warning sign to parents (not always, i know normal, happy people that listen to Manson) as it could be a sign that the kid is fascinated by the image of some of Manson's more violent themes (which i realize is a misinterpretation of his music, but a common one nonetheless) and might be an indication for counseling.
