Fifteen-year-old YouTube sensation Sungha Jung recently sat down to play his version of the Rolling Stones‘ 1966 hit ‘Paint it Black.’ If you’ve seen the acoustic phenom before, you know what to expect in the video below. Those who’ve never seen the South Korean before, however, will insist another musician is helping play all the song’s parts.
Jung doesn’t sing, he just lets his fingers pluck the bass line, strum the rythym guitar part and sing the melody … all at once. About two-thirds of the way through the song he adds some percussion before bringing the song to a climax and letting the music fade away. The kid makes it look as easy as PB&J.
One could spend a fair amount of company time watching videos of the teenager plucking out songs like ‘Take on Me‘ by A-Ha, The Beatles ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps‘ (filmed in 2006) and the Super Mario Brothers theme song. He’s also released an album of 18 of his favorite pieces, and is touring America this fall with Trace Bundy. His Facebook page has over 220,000 fans.
I remember this guy! I saw him aaages back, didn't realise he was famous. Check out 'Missing you', he wrote that when he was like 12 or something, pretty good stuff.
Slow news day clearly. Either way, Sungha is a great guitarist but most people have seen him already.
I haven't. Yeah, you could say this isn't really news but I'm glad UG brought it to my attention. Beautiful arrangement and really nice playing. I might get that album if it has more songs like this and While My Guitar Gently Weeps and fewer like fckin Aha.

That doesn't even really do any justice to this kid, considering Slash and Mustaine aren't very great guitarists at all.
